I had a wonderful experience at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital during my labour. One of the midwives who attended to me Linu was absolutely exceptional. She was highly professional, kind, and incredibly supportive throughout the entire process.
Her compassion, respect, and genuine care truly stood out, and she maintained the highest standards in everything she did. She made what could have been a very overwhelming experience feel safe and reassuring.
I’m deeply grateful for the care I received and would like to sincerely thank Linu for the outstanding support she gave me.
I want to share my sincere gratitude to the maternity and surgical team at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, especially the team who performed my C-section.
From the moment I arrived, I felt safe and well cared for. The staff were calm, kind, and professional, which made a very emotional and nerve-wracking experience much easier. The surgical team did an amazing job — my C-section and the stitching healed beautifully, and I’m truly grateful for the care and skill they showed.
Everyone treated me with respect and reassurance, and I always felt listened to. Bringing a baby into the world is such an important moment, and I’m thankful it was in the hands of such capable and compassionate people.
Thank you to the whole team for your dedication and the wonderful care you provide to mothers and babies.
The reason I especially wanted to leave this feedback, even a year after my baby was born, is because of how perfectly my stitches healed. The scar is so neat and minimal that you can barely tell I had a C-section. That level of care and skill truly stayed with me, and I’m very grateful for it.
Where to even begin?
I attended A&E on Friday as I suffered an inguinal hernia on Wednesday. I was labelled "Green" by the triage nurse even though I was clearly more urgent than that. After waiting 8 hours I was brought in to a chair, and then finally a stretcher, where I was examined physically by 3-4 different people over the course of 4 hours.
This makes my total time in hospital so far at 12 hours.
They confirmed it, they felt it, they knew it. I was told I was being put on a "semi-urgent" list for the inguinal hernia repair, which was 6-8 weeks. I was a bit annoyed, but what can you do?
So, I was released with no pain medication script, no sick cert, nothing. I figured that's just the way things work.
Then, 2 days later I was rushed to the same A&E with the worst stomach pain I've ever had, due to a gastritis flare. The A&E doctors were absolutely horrible towards me. After screaming in pain for about an hour straight, I was finally brought into a room, examined, and given a small dose of morphine which helped for about an hour.
I was then left in a chair without pain medication from 8AM to 5PM. In that time, I was given an inhalant pain medication which caused me to have heart palpitations, chest pain, and back pain. I was told "there's nothing else we can give you" and then I was left to sit in the chair in agony.
-- That pain medication has a strict clash (bad interaction) against morphine and should NEVER have been given to me at the same time -- but nobody listened to me.
I asked for IV fluids from 11:30AM to 2:30PM repeatedly as I was so dehydrated I couldn't walk up to the nurse's station. Finally at 2PM I got so thirsty I couldn't wait anymore so I drank water, which I promptly threw back up. At 2:30, I received IV fluids for about 15 minutes before being wheeled down for a CT scan (which I didn't need for my stomach, but okay I guess it's protocol).
When I got back to ASAU, I was told they couldn't see my hernia, so they were taking me off the list for surgery. I was baffled - how? Hernias don't just disappear. They did a physical exam again, and poked and prodded and it HURT A LOT. But, they said "Ah sure, I can't find it, you don't have a hernia." How does this even happen? I'm sitting typing this now with a protruding hernia sticking out of me!!
Finally, my wife shows up at 4PM to collect me as they've told me "your bloodwork and scans are all normal" - which I told them they'd be. Gastritis flares like mine just need a strong PPI, pain relief, and IV fluids as I couldn't keep anything down. But, nobody listened to me from the start, so why would they care?
It took them an extra hour to give me IV paracetamol and get the cannula out of my arm. An HOUR, while the nurses were putting up pride decorations all over their station. I get it - you need to have a bit of "fun" at work sometimes, but can it wait so a patient can get some relief?
They finally gave me IV paracetamol 20 minutes after my wife showed up, I'm not sure if she gave them the "Irish Mammy" stern look or what, but I'm sure that if my wife hadn't shown up, I would've been let go with nothing.
Well, that was two days ago now, as I had to recover from being given a combination of drugs that have left me in a zombie state.
Since I was being let go, I had asked for two things on a script. 1. Pain relief, and 2. Anti-nausea medication. They agreed to do this. But, the script had a FEW solpadol and NO nausea relief.
I'm very tempted to get an Uber or Taxi down to Dublin the next time I need any sort of urgent medical attention, as I've had it with this hospital and the way they treated me.
And I know I'm not the only one.
I usually leave quite detailed reviews for places regardless of ranking to explain my experience. This hospital has put me through so much bull- that I genuinely don’t want to recollect over it again because the staff in this ‘hospital’ boiled my blood so much. Incompetent. Inadequate. Rude. Feel sorry for anyone who ends up here.
Had to wait nearly three years to see dermatologist got there seen lovely nurse who bye the way done all the work then dermatologist came in for maybe a minute and they get the big bucks for one minute after waiting nearly three years it's a total disgrace this. Then to get bloods then waiting again so long there only seemed to be one person total disgrace. After all the waiting and the length I had to travel the place is a joke.
ER is never a place you want to end up in but Drogheda ER make it unnessessarily unpleasant. Staff is always friendly and as helpful as the poor admin system allows. It's tired and dirty looking though. The children's ER is sad...nice mural but everything else was poor material choices and a place for spreading germs. The first doctor we encountered was not qualified to make an assessment, leading to a second very uncomfortable examination. After hours of anxiousnes and worry you are met with the most stupid parking system...ER shouldn't even have to pay for parking in my opinion. There was no pay option at the exit so I had to park again and go over to the little hut and because I was now 2min later...and additional 2e was added...absolutely ridiculous. Thinking of the money spent on the new children's hospital in dublin and the no accountability of their over spending when you see places across the country like this.. makes me really angry... at incompetence and greediness.
Cannot say enough for every staff member I have met over the past ten days - everyone was SO helpful, caring and professional.

As one of the busiest hospitals in Ireland, I spent several hours here yesterday. I received the best of treatment, courtesy and respect from every member of staff I came into contact with.
I sincerely have huge regard with how hard they work and feel so sorry that these wonderful professionals are undervalued and mistreated by our governments continued failures.
