Emergency Department review here - first of all the staff were great, and I got an accurate medical review which determined I required admission. However there were no beds available for anybody due to over capacity and they were very apologetic to me and all the patients around me who had to be referred to other hospitals.
They know the scenario here where demand well outweighs capacity, so I really wonder why they are actively advertising on the radio for patients to attend. Blackrock is doing the same, with exactly the same capacity issue. The moguls are out of touch with patient need & experience and solely examined, of course, in shareholder interest, as that’s their job in a fir-profit hospital. Maybe hold off the invitations to attend the ED until the new wing of new beds and a bigger ED is completed. To the PR & Marketing people in here, time to give your head a wobble and do your job properly as you only build up poor reporting as I’m doing here.
My own outcome here - I ended up in SVUH (public) via Blackrock (again no capacity) where I received compassionate good care, although via a long chair & then trolley wait before a lovely little ward in modern surroundings. As a background I’ve MS & Crohns, ileostomy, with multiple surgeries. My small bowel got a bit tangled up in adhesions, lost litres of fluid, became extremely dehydrated, ended up with acute kidney failure,; all resolving with expert management. Surgeon could avoid intervening, but warned me it has the potential to recur & to get myself to hospital asap.
I attend several consultants at Beacon, my GI prof, general surgeon, cardiology prof, & top expert in complex gynae surgery (one of a handful in Europe), so my instinct was to go to where I’m best known and my extensive medical records are. By advertising the ED on radio, that brings all & sundry in from far & wide, eg those who are trying to avoid likes of Tallaght ED “bedlam”. This adds such pressure so that existing “loyal patients” for want of a better expression, must head elsewhere, and the newcomers get put off bringing further custom in future.
Had a brilliant experience in the Beacon at both the A&E department and the Endoscopy unit recently. A special thanks to Jose in Endoscopy for the warm welcome and friendly face. He truly is made for the job. I felt very comfortable and at ease during both my visits. Would recommend.
I had a great experience here. The processes were smooth and the staffs are efficient and caring. I found some difficulties to reach whether I wanted to go inside the hospital as it is big. It would be great if the management can improve the navigation hints inside. Inside you can see a lot of cafes and large lounges. Just make sure that your insurance is covering your procedures here.

Being able to stay with my mother in a private room and communicate openly with nurses and doctors made an enormous difference. The level of post-operative care and humanity shown by the entire team was exceptional.

Dr Salman is superb and all her staff (especially Christine , Theresa and Jade )were excellent. Everything you could hope from a medical team - professional , warm , efficient and reassuring . I felt in expert hands through every step of the process. I’m very grateful to you to all .
Had a number of unexpected treatments in last 8 months including A&E, day surgery and admission for 4 nights. Really professional staff and so friendly and put you at ease. From housekeeping, catering, admin to all medical staff can't fault them.
Had a poor experience in beacon for kids. I personally found the Consultant Hourihane came across quite rude and constantly spoke over me and didn’t let me get a word in. Anything I managed to say was totally disregarded. He might not think much of €250 but for the average working person that is a lot to spend, to not feel heard, especially when it’s regarding my child. I then spent a further €180 on allergy testing that was not comprehensive at all and only checked for 4 things. Then neither the nurse nor the consultant advised the same things, lack of communication was extremely obvious. Given conflicting information. Wouldn’t recommend at all. Save the money and go abroad like we should have.
Beacon kids is amazing. Doctor who takes time to find out what is wrong and listen to you. Receptionist is very nice and give you very warm welcome. Nurse was so nice. I can just say super team and thank you so much for you very warm welcome 😊. I will always come back to you .
