One Plus
I felt very anxious during my MRI scan and had to get up twice before the scan could begin. Although I have had CT and MRI scans many times before, this was my first experience after my hysterectomy and oophorectomy, and my heart rate suddenly increased.
Radiologist Susan supported me with incredible patience and kindness. She encouraged me, reassured me, and gave me two chances to calm myself instead of rushing the process. Despite it being a night shift and the staff likely being tired, she remained calm, fresh, and smiling throughout. Her compassion made all the difference, and I am truly grateful to her.
My anxiety stemmed from my previous scans, during which I had experienced reactions multiple times, and that fear contributed to my nervousness this time.
I would also like to sincerely thank Sammy, who kindly helped me put my shoes on when bending was very difficult for me after surgery. This small act meant a lot.
I can confidently say that Southmead Hospital continues to succeed because of dedicated and caring staff like Susan and Simi. I left the scan feeling calm, relieved, and deeply thankful.

I went to A +E again today, second visit in 3 weeks. Wait time to be seen was not that long today. Saw a lovely dr called Kate who listened to me. I wanted an mri scan, got me answers to my questions. (What a great relief to have answers). She was very patient, great awareness of what I wanted. Offered great advise. Was soooo pleased with today's results. Keep up the excellent work Kate.
After a stroke I was transferred from Weston General to Southmead. I spent around 30 hours in Gate 34B. I couldn't believe that I had my own room with en suite facilities(pictures attached): I was pleasantly shocked, it was the sort of room I thought only private patients would benefit from!
The staff were, bar none, excellent (although, I have to say, some were difficult to understand due to English being their second language); however, that aside, whilst not really wanting to be there of course, the stay was a cut above anywhere I've had to stay before.
Upon being discharged, I even had an excellent lady (can't remember her name) take me to the taxi waiting area; she had a wheelchair but I opted to walk. I appreciated this because my sense of direction is atrocious (even though the signposting is excellent) and it made for a swift discharge experience.
My partner had to go to minor injuries this weekend followed by going for a minor surgical procedure the next day and I just wanted to say thank you so much to the incredible staff at this hospital.
I was amazed by how brilliant the minor injury nurses were. The room was very busy and they were just so good at getting through everyone and keeping patients updated. I don't know how they manage to juggle everything so efficiently but I'm very grateful for it.
The doctor we saw the next day was absolutely incredible too. Super knowledgable and reassuring. Thank you so much!
At 7:20pm on maundy Thursday evening with traffic chaos all around, some of it doubtless Bodmin for a bumper Bank Holiday bound, we were helped enormously by Delesa and her fabulous finger nails at gate 18/19 reception. Delesa was extremely diligent, friendly and professional and persevered to ensure that our appointment was possible despite us having been delayed just a few minutes in traffic. She was past her shift end but we only found that out afterwards. Our consultant was also fantastic and once again we have nothing but praise for Delesa, her colleagues, Southmead and the wonderful NHS. Thank you. Happy Easter all.
Southmead Hospital really stands out in a good way. First thing you notice is how open and spacious it feels. It doesn’t give off that cramped, stressful vibe you sometimes get in hospitals. The design is modern, bright and clean, which makes the whole place feel a lot more welcoming.
The layout is easy to follow with clear signposts, so you don’t end up wandering around lost. On top of that, they have self check in machines right at the entrance which makes appointments so much quicker and stress free.
The staff are brilliant, friendly, helpful, and they actually take the time to make sure you’re comfortable and know what’s happening. You can also tell the hospital values its volunteers. They’ve got "Move Makers" who are dotted around helping people find their way. If you’re not sure where to go, they’ll literally walk with you and make sure you get to your appointment, which makes a massive difference.
On the practical side, having an M\&S and a Costa inside the hospital is a big bonus. It makes waiting around or visiting much easier, as you’ve got proper options for food and coffee instead of just a vending machine.
Overall, Southmead feels really well thought out from the design of the building to the people working inside. It makes what could be a stressful experience a lot more positive.
I’m still in high care and I just want to thank the nurses (especially Hannah) for their kindness and compassion over new years. It’s a tough time for some, and your staff made things as bareable as possible. I’m really hoping to go home soon but thanks for making Florence proud. Happy new year. The food this evening was a nice touch. X
Have nothing but praise for this hospital 😊came in recently with a badly cut hand care from start to finish was EXCELLENT caring and professional staff.Waited overnight for an appointment the very next morning to operate.People knock the NHS but I found this hospital from A and E to after care 10/10
