First time visiting the cobble hill office and everyone was super sweet! The MA and PA were awesome! PA Julia Ornatowski was so educated and so welcoming, I really enjoyed seeing her. She listened to my concerns and addressed what my treatment plan should be right away. I was taken into the room quick and the MA was so friendly! Can’t recommend Julia Ornatowski enough!

I had a terrible experience at this dermatology practice and will not be returning, despite its convenient location. The medical care itself was fine, not exceptional, but acceptable. My real issue is with billing practices that felt coercive, misleading and frankly predatory. I scheduled a consultation ONLY to discuss the possibility of a cosmetic facial peel. I had never done one before and was unsure whether I would proceed. Before I was even allowed into my appointment, I was told I had to pay $250 upfront (the cost that was not disclosed when I made an appointment). When I asked what would happen if I decided NOT to proceed with the peel, I was told I would still be charged the full $250, but if I end up doing it, the cost will be deducted from this fee. I almost left but couldn't remember if I left my card details anywhere when making an appointment (and would be charged anyway in that case), so, under the pressure, I paid and effectively got boxed into a decision before even seeing the doctor. Given that I had already paid, I went ahead with a very mild peel (didn't do much). During the visit, the doctor also injected a longstanding pimple (which didn't do shit by the way, I still have it) and mentioned that some of the visit might be covered by insurance due to my mild acne. I then left the office to discover the following charges had been applied: - Office Evaluation & Management: $200 - Injection: $200 - Skin peel: $250 - Medication (Triamcinolone Acetonide): $20 Total: $670 None of these costs were disclosed or explained upfront. I was especially confused as to: - Why was the office visit billed at $200 while I was charged $250 for it upon arrival? - Why was the peel billed again at $250 instead of being deducted from the upfront payment, as I was assured it will be? - Why a $200 injection performed without discussing cost? - And really, charging me $20 for the medication that should be included in the procedure?? AUDACITY! It seems that insurance covered some of this, because I received a bill for $36 (on top of $250 paid upfront) but with no itemized explanation, no breakdown of insurance adjustments, and no clarity on how the final amount was calculated. I came in prepared to pay for a cosmetic peel. What I was not prepared for was being pressured into having one and then seeing additional, undisclosed services added to my bill, bringing the total to $670 with zero transparency. That is not acceptable practice. Requiring a large upfront payment just to see a doctor, adding services without disclosing costs, and hiding behind vague assurance that “your insurance might cover this” feels deeply unethical. This experience left me feeling misled, confused and bamboozled. They seem to be scamming both clients and insurance firms to get as much as they can. I will not be returning and would not recommend it to anyone!

I went to the Cobble Hill location of The Dermatology Specialists today, for the first time, and it ended up being one of the easiest appointments I’ve had in a while. It’s about a 20 minute walk from my place, so I didn’t have to plan much around getting there. The front desk team was warm right away and offered me water while I waited, which I appreciated more than I expected. The appointment itself felt really straightforward. She explained what was going on in a way that actually made sense, and when I had questions she didn’t rush through them or make me feel like I should already know the answers. Everything moved quickly but didn’t feel rushed. I also used their Capsule service, to purchase my medication, for the first time and that honestly made a big difference. Instead of stopping at a pharmacy, everything was delivered to my door, so I could just keep going with my day and knock out errands without that extra step hanging over me. It felt efficient without being impersonal, which isn’t always the case with medical visits. I’d go back here again without hesitation.

My experience has been great, from the receptionist/ Front Desk going above and beyond to making me feel comfortable, my Doctor really helping me with my condition and progress. I have visited a few locations and each location my experience has been great. The have helped for a few different treatments and allowed me to take control and feel better with the results.

Terrible unprofessional place. Google really needs to update their system so that you can make reviews with zero stars. My boyfriend just today went through a bad experience here after weeks of trying to get to see the surgeon. Due to the fact that apparently none of their staff are properly trained on making appointments. It was either the wrong day, or the surgeon wasn’t in, or it was the wrong time. Not to mention the fact that they booked his appointment for surgery under consultation instead of surgery, like how hard is it to properly label the type of appointment your patients are going in for, really makes me wonder if their checking to see if they’re employees have the proper requirements/ skills to work there. He got there at 1:30 the time he was booked for but because they put it as a consultation had to wait till 4:30 to see the surgeon. I don’t know the surgeons name or if they rotate shifts throughout the day but the surgeon they had there on Monday didn’t seem like they knew what they were doing. He had his ear inspected before the surgery, in which the surgeon basically said they were good to start. once he cut open and dug around and closed up the ear, that is when he informed my boyfriend that they couldn’t fix the main problem he went in for due to the anesthesia playing a part in dispersing the problem. Which you think if this is this persons profession they would have noticed it when inspecting and notified my partner about this possibility beforehand. The surgeon themselves mentioned how overbooked they were after my partner showed his frustration over the fact that both of his ears couldn’t be worked on and had to leave with only one ear done. And the response was simply sorry we get overbooked. My boyfriend works with his ears he had to take time off multiple days for the appointments they made mistakes on. And now if he wanted to get the other ear done on top of the week off he’s taking for this one would have to go through that whole process again and take more time of work. Dermatologist are all scammers in my opinion, but especially don’t go to this place they may have 4.4 or whatever stars on Google but in Apple reviews only 1.5 stars. Google also needs to stop allowing businesses from removing Google reviews. Save your time and go to a different dermatologist, this is NYC people don’t got the time to waste.

PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. I should have listened to the previous reviews. I had a terrible experience at the Cobble Hill location (as have many more before me judging from the reviews). I waited over an hour to be taken back to a room. Once I got to the room, I then had to wait another hour to be seen. Even though I had made an appointment with one doctor, I was seen by a PA. She prescribed medication and I was told I’d receive a text with information on how to fill it. I never did. I then called the offices 3 times and I was repeatedly told someone would sent it. I never received the text and in turn, I have not been able to start the medication. How is this medical care? I will never be back and urge everyone to stay away.

Dr. Cary was very kind and described the procedure and everything I could expect thoroughly. The process was quick and painless. Thank you for your expert work! The people at the front desk were great, friendly and accommodating. I can say the same about the doctor’s assistant. .

I absolutely love my dermatologist at the Cobble Hill location. I’ve been going to the dermatology specialists for numerous years and previously rated them 5 stars. Private equity bought them out and billing has become a nightmare. They outsource it to a third party and will auto bill your credit card without mentioning a service date. Then you look up your EOB and it says you owe zero so you have to call and get passed around from one external biller to another. I can’t tell you how many hours of my time has been used up trying to straighten out bills due to a synchronization lag and poor operational systems cobbled together by a needle and thread. The offices are beautiful l, the doctors are great. Billing is a complete mess. They make it easy to pay and direct you to their website at least three to four times which is insult to injury because I’d have already paid on the website before calling or I would have been fine with the automatic credit card charge and not called them in the first place IF the bill was correct. Greedy private equity is behind the company now. Their Managing Directors deserve a pay cut for destroying the customer experience with lackadaisical billing practices that will eat up your time while they sip Martinis in East Hampton. I found this on the web: TDS has indeed transitioned into a high-automation "tech-heavy" model to manage their massive patient volume. Here is what has likely changed on their end: • Move to eClinicalWorks & NexHealth: They have centralized their entire operation onto eClinicalWorks (a massive Electronic Health Record system) and NexHealth for their patient-facing journey (scheduling, payments, and reminders). • The "Synchronization" Lag: They use a "synchronizer" to bridge their booking apps with their medical records. If there is a glitch in that sync—like an insurance update not carrying over correctly—it often leads to the "nightmare" billing cycles where you get charged for things that should have been covered. • Billing is Outsourced to a third party and nobody knows anything up-to-date. Private equity firms like Regal Healthcare Capital Partners (who back TDS) prioritize "efficiency" and "revenue cycle management." In plain English, this means: Aggressive Collections: The systems are programmed to automatically trigger "Patient Responsibility" bills the moment an insurance claim isn't immediately paid in full. Coding Complexity: As they expand, they often use "professional coders" who may bill more aggressively (using higher-level codes for simple visits) to maximize profit, which can lead to higher co-pays or "facility fees" you didn't see before. Maybe a number of PROVIDER COMPLAINTs from a number annoyed customers will wake up the private equity company.
