I’ve visited several locations before and consistently had positive experiences, which made this visit particularly disappointing. There is significant room for improvement in both bedside manner and the clarity of communication regarding the plan of care. I went in enthusiastic to address my issues and left feeling bewildered.
The physician was notably curt, which diminished my confidence in her willingness to fully address my concerns. I understand that physicians look for key details to efficiently allocate diagnostic resources; however, I felt repeatedly rushed and was questioned more than twice about recent medical workups. While I recognize that sharing my records is standard and appropriate, the issue isn’t in the request itself but the manner of inquiry. It felt dismissive, and undermining, which was distressing. One issue in particular was assessed hastily, before I had the opportunity to properly show or explain it.
I was then told there was no solution, without being offered or guided through potential treatment options. When I inquired about one that was suggested by another provider, I was told it was “not effective,” with little explanation as to why until AFTER I pushed for more insight..
It is both dismissive and insensitive to withhold a discussion of possible treatments, especially without providing meaningful context about the diagnosis or the limitations of care. I also sensed visible irritation when asking follow-up questions, which felt inappropriate given the sensitive nature of dermatological concerns and the need for patient understanding.
Needless to say, I felt more like a name on a chart than a human being. Overall, the communication felt cold, robotic and disengaged.
On a good note, front desk clerk was vibrant and kind.
UPDATE: I tried emailing per their message but they never replied.
All of the workers were nice and there was flexibility with appointment times which was convenient.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t a fan of my overall experience and will not be returning. I got a biopsy and was told “If there’s anything noteworthy on the results, we’ll give you a call within two weeks to schedule an appointment for you to come in.” Personally, and as I’ve experienced in the past, I believe it’s good practice to call regardless of the results and share the results over the phone.
I was also a little skeptical about the two weeks part, as I’ve never waited more than a few days for biopsy results.
After three weeks of silence, I reached out to ask if my biopsy results have been received, because they weren’t even showing up on the portal. I got a call back the day after my second phone call saying the doctor would like to speak to me in person about the results. Of course, hearing this after three weeks of silence stressed me out. I immediately booked an appointment and took off of work, only to be told it was benign and to put Vaseline on the scar, which I was already doing. I’m thankful it wasn’t cancerous, but between the lack of information provided along the way and the wasteful 5-minute visit to their office (which will likely end with a bill in my mailbox) after having to seek out simple results that could’ve been communicated over the phone or via their portal, I will not be returning.
As someone who struggles with anxiety/OCD, I wanted to share this for those who might also be stressed out by this process.
If you end up called into the office to discuss results, it doesn’t necessarily mean anything bad! They probably just want your money.
Dr. Jason Chan is an exceptional dermatologist. I was very nervous going into my appointment, but his calm, reassuring demeanor was perfect and immediately put me at ease. He is incredibly caring, patient, and attentive throughout the entire visit.
When suturing my face, he was extremely gentle and soft-handed, and I felt confident knowing I was in such skilled hands. He took the time to thoroughly explain every step of the treatment plan, answered all of my questions, and made sure I fully understood not only the procedure but also the healing process. He even went above and beyond to explain scar care in detail so I could achieve the best possible outcome.
I’m very grateful for his expertise and compassion, and I highly recommend Dr. Chan to anyone looking for outstanding dermatologic care.
This is getting 1 Star just for the efficiency of the front desk. However, this is by far the worst experience I've ever had with any doctor's office in regards to a prescription. The doctors here are persistent on using a third party service, which I was against to begin with but I was desperate. It is now three 1/2 weeks later, my skin condition has severely worsened and there has been no work around or follow ups from the doctors office AT ALL. I have been calling almost every day hopeful that my prescription has been ready and I keep getting the run around that it's never even been sent. After speaking with this other specialty pharmacy, they stated they never even received it. This has truly been a nightmare and I do not recommend this business AT ALL! I'm extremely disappointed and in severe pain. This is 100% UNACCEPTABLE!!
This was a dermatology office that was recommended to me for my teen , the first Vist was good no before pic though which I was told was to be done. The second Vist I thought was good but my decision has changed drastically. I received new meds from the last Vist for my child the dose was increased I noticed some changes and my child complained of burning a lot of peeling and dryness which I assumed it was part of the medication working or not working . I really started getting worried when I noticed her face with dark patches and extreme dryness and discoloration. I called at least 7 times no one was available as the receptionist told me she will send the messages ,at this point excuses which is unexceptionable when it comes to my child and our concerns from a provider and office manager or supervisor which I requested for anyone to get back to me at this point . I was told someone tried to call me when a cell phone will let you know there was a missed call the lack of communication and patient care is not a priority and I am very disappointed with the service and the outcome that my child has to go through.
An amazing location with very kind and knowledgeable staff. Always kept clean, and never had to wait more than 10 minutes to meet with one of the doctors for my appointments. A gold standard in professionalism!
New patient and very pleased with my service at The Derm in Bushwick. Prompt check-in, helpful receptionists and thorough intake nurse. The doctor was patient with me and gave me actionable feedback for next steps. The decor was cool and relaxing with eclectic nunchuks hanging on the wall and a modern polished concrete floor with sliding doors and sleek appointments. Already looking forward to my next treatment.
I came here because I suffer with acne, I had an appointment with Jason Chan. He really listened to what I had to say and tailored the treatment to fit my needs. I recommended him to my sister, and she’s seeing him now too. I definitely recommend this place, specifically Jason, to anyone struggling with acne. Also, the front staff is so nice and friendly. Overall, this is a great place!
