The receptionist and office manager came across as rude, cold, unfriendly, non-caring, and unapologetic. They lack customer service and courtesy skills. They did not welcome the patients with a warm good morning as I observed this practice not only with me but, also with several elderly patients. It seemed like all they care about was making patients sign in and wait for more than the appointment time. They appeared to be overlooking appointments at the same time. No one in the staff ever showed any sympathy or empathy for my concerns. The office manager just indicated to call this person and number to voice your concerns.
I had mixed feelings about our experience.
The medical assistant was wonderful, friendly, patient, and made my 6-year-old feel comfortable from the start. She was definitely the highlight of our visit.
Unfortunately, the visit got off to a frustrating start. Before our appointment, I completed all of the required paperwork online after receiving a text with instructions to do so. However, when we arrived, I was handed the exact same forms and asked to fill them out all over again. It made me question why patients are asked to complete paperwork ahead of time if it isn’t going to be used.
Our experience with the doctor was also disappointing. When I hear “pediatric ophthalmologist,” I expect someone who naturally connects with children and understands how to work with them. Instead, the doctor repeatedly and rather sternly told my 6-year-old to stop putting fingerprints on the exam equipment. While I completely understand wanting to protect expensive equipment, the interactions felt more harsh than child-friendly, especially for a curious 6-year-old.
The checkout experience was equally frustrating. After scheduling our follow-up for next year, I asked if we could order glasses since the optical area was right there. I spoke with the optician and asked several questions before realizing she wasn’t very interested in helping because our vision insurance wasn’t accepted for eyewear there. That left me wondering why the office accepts referrals for eye exams but not for the glasses themselves. It creates an unnecessary inconvenience for families who naturally assume they can complete the entire process in one place.
When I explained that we had already used our vision benefits for the year and planned to pay out of pocket, I still couldn’t get a straightforward price. I showed her the frames we wanted, and she continued giving only broad estimates, mentioning an additional charge for thinner lenses. When I estimated the total at around $420, she sighed, pulled out a calculator, and corrected me to “closer to $440.” The interaction gave the impression that she simply wasn’t interested in making the sale or helping us.
In the end, we took our prescription elsewhere and purchased our glasses closer to home. The office lost approximately a $440 sale because the customer service throughout the optical process just wasn’t there.
I truly appreciate the kindness of the assistant, as well as the male assistant who helped at check in was great. But overall, this wasn’t the pediatric experience I expected or hoped for.
Expect to wait at least 2 hrs with or without dialation. It usually takes long for those that are diabetics so they can get checked properly. My brother goes here and my daughter. My brother gets dialated all the time to be sure he doesnt have anything wrong. I like that about this dr. IF you have any questions they are there to listen and try to explain to you. The staff at the childrens place in the middle are polite and are always on top of everything or at least try to. its alot of patience to be working in that environment.
Very good! The receptionist was polite and helpful. Atmosphere is welcoming and clean. Dr. lingkun Kong is fast and efficient. I was pleased with her level of expertise. I would definitely recommend her to anyone that wants a thorough eye exam.
This is my second visit to San Antonio Eye Center. My first experience was amazing that is why I returned to have my Cataract Surgery done again at their facility. Dr Nagi is my Ophthalmologist was great the first time so I returned to see him again. He is very thorough and informative. I have received great treatment and results in his care. The staff was Very friendly and caring. They went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and cared for. They were very professional. Over all they are a five star rating. Yvonne Santos
Dr Maestro is a great doctor. Takes his time, explains everything in detail, and a great bedside manner. The staff and process at his office is also a positive experience.
Dr. Kong did surgery on my daughter’s eye, and we couldn’t have asked for a better doctor. We’ve been seeing her for 3 or 4 years, and she has always provided outstanding care. She’s patient, skilled, and truly cares about her patients. The best of the best!
My 7 year old son is Autistic, and I LOVE how patient and understanding the entire staff is. They understood how to interact with him and it made the appointment less stressful for everyone, myself included!! KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK!!
