Over the years, my family and I have witnessed meaningful growth and positive change at Harlem Hospital. I truly appreciate the culture of compassion, dedication, and support demonstrated by the doctors—like Dr. Weir, dentists such as Dr. Camper, and orthopedic specialists like Dr. Dayna Phillips as well as the entire staff. Their willingness to take the time to truly listen to their patients reflects a deep commitment to quality care and makes a lasting difference in the lives of those they serve. Their commitment not only impacts the quality of care but also inspires confidence and trust in the community. I’m especially encouraged by the example this hospital sets for young aspiring Black children, like my daughters , who aspire to work in healthcare. It’s powerful for them to see what’s possible, and I look forward to the continued impact this institution will have on future generations in medicine.

I would like to recognize Jonathan Ortiz from Patient Finance at Harlem Hospital for providing exceptional customer service and assistance with my health insurance application. From the very beginning, Jonathan demonstrated professionalism, patience, and a genuine commitment to helping me navigate a process that can often be confusing and stressful. What truly sets Jonathan apart is his dedication to going above and beyond for patients. He took the time to explain every step, answered all of my questions thoroughly, and ensured that I understood my options. His responsiveness, attention to detail, and willingness to advocate on my behalf made a tremendous difference in my experience. In an environment where quality customer service can sometimes be difficult to find, Jonathan consistently delivers a level of care, compassion, and professionalism that reflects the very best of Harlem Hospital. He treats every patient with dignity and respect and demonstrates the kind of commitment that organizations strive for but rarely find. Harlem Hospital is fortunate to have an employee like Jonathan Ortiz representing its mission and values. His dedication to helping patients access healthcare coverage is truly commendable, and I am grateful for all of his assistance.

Ever felt used by hospital? Promises before transport would be taken care of (because they new I was coming and going alone). Pain meds would be provided by hospital pharmacy. Food would also be provided after surgery since I had not eaten since 10pm. Surgery started hours late (no problem except...) Since the surgery was late that meant my transport would have to be changed, but they didn't so I had to Walk home by myself. The hospital pharmacy also was closed when I was ready to leave so my mental health therapist from a completely different program had to pick it up for me. They knew I am alergic to mayo but all they had was chicken salad or tuna salad both with mayo. Asked for fresh water in my Stanley cup they said they did it ( not!). No sling. The doctor never came to tell me how the surgery want. I have a weird metal stick coming out of my thumb.

On 03/31/2024 I had to visit Harlem Hospital ER because I was in pain. I was passing a huge kidney stone which was causing me severe pain, and I was given medication and dozed off. I woke up to my purse missing. I got off the bed, walked out of the room, and immediately notified the staff. I was then told I had to file a hospital incident report and wrote the report. Two years have gone by, and I got tired of reaching out to Patient Relations at Harlem Hospital. I even had a detective from NYC Hospital Police reach out to me last year in March asking me if the case was resolved. I got my purse stolen out of the hospital bed I was sleeping on, with my wallet which had money in it and other personal belongings. What worries me the most is that I could’ve have been assaulted or something worse could’ve happened to me and only God knows the way that would’ve been handled. I have records of how many times I contacted patient relations and got no answer/solution because they don’t care. My property that was stolen was not reimbursed. BE SAFE when you go to Harlem Hospital, don’t come alone. Please have someone that could advocate for you in the event that you couldn’t do it for yourself.

There’s a saying—you don’t truly appreciate something until you realize how much it matters. During my stay at Harlem Hospital Center, I came to appreciate something many people overlook: the quiet work that keeps patients safe and comfortable every day. Carlos Rojas from the Environmental Services (EVS) department does exactly that. He comes in, does his job with care and precision, and leaves behind a space that feels clean, fresh, and safe. It may seem simple, but it makes a real difference—especially when you are trying to rest and recover. What stood out to me most is the consistency. Every time Carlos cleaned my room, I could feel the difference. There was a sense of calm and comfort in the environment that helped me feel at ease. Some roles are essential but often go unnoticed. Carlos is one of those people who shows up, does the job right, and makes a meaningful impact without needing recognition—but he absolutely deserves it. Thank you, Carlos, for your professionalism and care. Your work truly matters.

My baby had to go to the Harlem hospital recently for head trauma. He had a gash in the middle of the forehead that needed stitches. They assessed him, kept me informed, staff was friendly. One of the ER nurses was masterful at gaining rapport and making us parents feel comfortable. They didn't have a plastic surgeon working but provided an oral maxillofacial resident instead. There were also ants crawling in the room and the windows and walls had like white spray or something running down. Overall, the experience with the staff was good. Could stand to be a bit cleaner.

Been to a few different hospitals and the Harlem NYC was great customer service and very helpful staff all around. I went for an MRI. Nurse Brandy was very helpful and Funny “easy peasy” and It really was. Thanks.
