Clark and Annemarie Schroeder
I have been a patient within the Houston Methodist Hospital/Medical care system since the Summer of 2023. I have been at both the downtown location and The Woodlands Hospital for care and many of the specialty clinics including: Endocrinology, Rheumatology, ENT, Cardiology, Pulmonology/ALD and Lung Transplant, Cardio-Thoracic Surgery and Gastroenterology, and the Woodlands ER and The Willowbrook Pulmonary Rehab. My PCP is also in the HM care system.
All of the specialty clinics have been at the downtown location. I love that many of the doctor's know each other and do communicate with each other. I have LOTS of health issues requiring lots of specialties, and I have confidence the care being provided to me. I do feel like I need to stay on top of my care, but I do appreciate the redundancy when I see a new provider. My health history is gone over meticulously, and I feel like I learn new things about my own health history almost every time!!
I regularly have labs drawn downtown and in The Woodlands, and CT scans, X-rays, PFTs, heart catheterization a couple of times, and various other procedures. I have been treated with care and respect by almost every employee, from the doctors to the nurses to the MAs to the lab techs to the custodial staff, to the registration staff and the individuals taking me to my car in the wheelchair after a procedure/hosptialization! When I have looked lost (the downtown hospital is a big place), employees have seen me and offered help to direct me to the right location!! Thank you for the wonderful care I have received and anticipate to receive in the future!!
We traveled from Florida for my daughter’s surgery (2nd one in 2 years) and can’t say enough about this hospital. From pre-op, post op and the team on her floor the level of care and sincere interest in her health was evident. The facility is beautiful with everything the family also needs while the patient is in the hospital. I stayed in the room with my daughter and they were kind to me as well. Even the food staff team were extra kind. I will never forgot the afternoon tea cart that came by with beverages and baked goods or fruit for the afternoon pick me up. The chaplain visited us and spent some uplifting time and also offered music, art or pet therapy if needed. I can’t even imagine how wonderful those options might be for a discouraged patient. This is a 5 star hospital and certainly worth traveling out of state!
Everyone has a different experience and looks at their "spent time" with their change in perception, BUT I've had nothing but the Best experience every time, whether it be OP Infusion Treatment WP 11th floor or a Methodist GI Physician next door to the hospital for a colonoscopy......my time has been wonder-full. I've had from entry to my destination of exiting Houston Methodist Hospital, the most knowledgeable (including training someone), professional, kind and just all around on-the-ball staff. I couldn't ask for better. I've also met some Ah-MAY-Zing peeps there as well. I hope your valuable health experience/time is as good as mine 😊
The pictures attached are how I found my husband's room today. I also want to bring your attention to several issues we have ran into with the staff. While in ICU nurse Jada refused to clean him when he soiled himself, nurse Yina had no patience for him and nurse Carmela was rude and basically ignored him. Nurse Brenda and Nog in the Alkek wing are a joke and really should choose a different profession. That being said said I want to let you know that nurses Stephanie G., Cristian, Ken,Kylie, Catherine, Eric, Kayla, and nurse aid Fabian all deserve not only a daisy nomination but also a huge thank you! Had it not been for his team of doctors and those eight wonderful people he would have died.
Back to the room conditions, it is unacceptable for a hospital room to be that filthy, especially when the patient had been fighting a massive infection for almost 50 days.
My husband had a Bilateral lung transplant and he has had some good nurses. I want to give a special thanks to Lamar Castleberry he’s a fine example on how a nurse should care for a patient. I just love his ethics and how he carry himself on the job. I pray, God continue to let his light shine on this young man. I also want to thank Nadine on the night shift for being a great nurse. She also enjoys her job and does it well. Over all Houston Methodist Transplant team are the BEST!
Shoutout to the entire ER team that was on shift on June
/25th since the very first moment I got to the parking lot and was not sure where I should go. One of the staff members was kindly enough to walk me until I got to the ER room from the Public Parking section, and wanted to mention especially my healthcare provider Ericka Paige , nurses Brenda and Jermaine, even the registry staff from the very beginning were so kind and helpful! This hospital has made me recover my faith in the healthcare system in Texas! Forever grateful for their kindness and expertise!
If a family member dies in this hospital, make sure you are able to leave the hospital. You are not allowed to sit in this area after 10pm. No signs stating this information. I have been staying in the room with my sister and she passed. My family is hours away and I have to wait for them to arrive. This hospital does not care about the comfort of family members in this situation.
Do not close your eyes either out of emotional exhaustion as it is a no sleeping zone apparently.
