I had my baby in the Rotunda in October 2024.
I was a patient in the semi-private clinic, and the care I received was exceptional.
I was under Dr Meena's team. I had an appointment per month on average due to my medical history, and got a scan at every appointment. The team were on time for 90% of the appointments, only in August we noticed some delays which were probably due to being short staffed because of holidays.
We also availed of the NIPT (privately). We opted for the Panorama test which was carried out through a scan + blood test at 9 weeks, and we received the results within a week.
A special mention goes to Dr Rasha who, in a day and age where inductions have become the norm, strongly advised against my induction (originally planned for 39 weeks) as my blood tests were normal and my pregnancy had been uneventful and progressed perfectly!
I had my baby after a very long labour and ended up needing oxytocin anyway, but my waters broke spontaneously at term. You could tell the hospital was absolutely at capacity and I was brought to the delivery suite 40 hours after my waters had broken. I don't know if this is normal (as in, part of the hospital policy) or if there weren't any delivery suites available for me at the time, but at least during this very long wait I was allowed to have my husband with me at all times. I understand that they were also trying to let my labour start without having to induce it, but unfortunately it didn't happen.
The midwives in the delivery suite are absolute angels. The epidural was made available to me within 5 minutes of requesting it and the anaesthetist did an incredible job - I didn't have any side effects at all and the epidural worked perfectly throughout the rest of my labour, taking the edge off contractions but still allowing me to feel them coming. The midwives did everything they could to let me have my baby with as little intervention as possible, and I delivered spontaneously without instruments despite the long second stage.
I was then brought to the semi-private post natal ward in a room with 4 beds. The room and bathroom were both cleaned at regular intervals and spotless. The room itself was spacious but the space around the beds isn't massive, enough for 1 visitor, the cot and suitcase. The midwives and Lactation consultant in the post-natal ward were amazing. I was exclusively breastfeeding and they were available to support me every time I rang the bell, both during the day and the night.
Another special mention goes to the food, which is really superb both in terms of variety and quality. There is always a vegetarian choice available and plenty of meals throughout the day (breakfast, tea, lunch, tea with dessert, dinner and again tea with cake or cheese and crackers). No need to pack extra snacks for the postnatal ward, but maybe have nuts handy for the delivery suite. Bring a water bottle as there are water dispensers throughout the hospital (free).
I also availed of the hospital's free post-natal physiotherapy service through self-referral. Cinny is an incredible person and physiotherapist, so kind and caring, she made me feel seen and at ease, as a pelvic floor assessment can be unpleasant (especially after giving birth), but she went above and beyond to make the appointment a nice and helpful experience. All women should know and avail of the physiotherapy self-referral program, which is valid for the first 6 months postpartum!
I had my little girl here after previously having my two boys in Holles Street. While my overall experience was mixed, one aspect of my care has stayed with me for all the wrong reasons.
I spent 16 hours in the pre-labour ward before being transferred to the labor ward. Upon arrival, I was assigned a midwife who, unfortunately, came across as lacking empathy, compassion, and understanding at a time when I felt particularly vulnerable. All I can remember was she had blonde hair and was Scottish as she never introduced herself to me. Childbirth is one of the most significant and emotionally demanding experiences a woman can go through, and the quality of communication and support from healthcare professionals can make a tremendous difference.
The interaction left me feeling distressed, and it is something that I still find upsetting when I reflect on my experience. Fortunately, when her shift ended, I was cared for by Amy, whose kindness, professionalism, and genuine compassion completely changed the atmosphere of my labor and delivery experience.
Amy was exceptional. She provided reassurance, support, and attentive care at a time when I needed it most. Her calm and caring approach reminded me of the high standard of maternity care that families hope to receive. I remain very grateful for the care she provided and believe she is a tremendous asset to the hospital.
While I appreciate that healthcare environments are busy and demanding, I hope all staff are supported and encouraged to provide the level of empathy and compassion that patients deserve during such an important and vulnerable moment in their lives.
I chose the semi-private care option at The Rotunda, and I had an exceptional experience throughout my pregnancy and delivery journey.
From my very first scan to all antenatal appointments, I was consistently treated with kindness, professionalism, and genuine care. Every member of staff took the time to answer questions and ensure I felt comfortable and supported.
Although there was no availability in the semi-private ward on my first day, I spent one night in the public ward. The midwife caring for me was absolutely wonderful, attentive, compassionate, and incredibly supportive during such an important time. The following morning, I was transferred to the semi-private ward, where I continued to receive excellent care.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, which was varied, nutritious, and much appreciated during my stay.
A special mention to Midwife Nicola for the free labour and newborn care classes offered by the hospital. These sessions were informative, practical, and gave us confidence as first-time parents preparing for the arrival of our baby.
Thank you to the entire Rotunda team for taking such wonderful care of both me and my baby. The dedication, expertise, and compassion shown by everyone we encountered made a lasting impression, and we will always be grateful for the outstanding care we received.
I have 3 kids In Rotunda. And dont think of leaving a review. My 1st delivered was back in 2005 where everything was till using chair queueing system. One being called in we all moved up 1 chair. I couldn’t remember much back then. My 2nd was emergency C section in the covid time. I was upset as no one informed us in advance when we left the recovery room to after care room that my partner need to go home. Instead, they pointed to the lift and ask him to leave on the way that they pushed me and my partner was carrying my luggage. 🥺 I would be happy if they told us in advance. On my 3rd baby, during the pregnancy checkup as I had issue with Thyroid and diabetes. At the beginning, nurse called to check my diet and gluscose reading and suggesting some changes. Once time, one nurse/midwife was a bit rude over the phone as I informed her that anything to help other than have dinner before 7pm due to my work. She kept rude with me that i had to bring dinner and have it before 7pm. However, as i said, i couldn’t as I couldn’t eat while serving client 🫣.
Also, the waiting for check up in the thyroid and diabetes were a shock. We have appointments letter says at 8-8:30am. However, we being seen and-home so late some time, I wasn’t home until 3pm? Few time they have no staff. And everything was messing. One they couldn’t know who had my book and a doctor sounds at me. As i asked her why call the person after me. She sounds and said she doesn’t has my book and it is my responsibility to find my book back 🫣. And this was about 2pm with sitting around from 8:30am and no lunch yet. On the day of going home with baby, my baby hadn’t got a bath and I asked, the nurse told me oh as this is your 3rd baby, we wouldn’t bath him. We only wash baby for 1st time mom. Is this strange? I believe all baby should have an equal treat and get wash, not going home after 3 days still have some dry blood on his body 😥.
While doctor who help me planning my c section and the c section team were great. This is why I gave 3 stars.
I've been here for a whole week with my wife, pre and postnatal, and we are so grateful about the care received here. Everyone from security, midwives, nurses to doctors and other people working in the hospital played an important role in our story, and our baby was delivered successfully even after almost 2 days of labor. We recommend anyone who wants to give birth to come in The Rotunda Hospital where the check ups prenatal and postnatal are made regularly.
I was recently in the care of the Rotunda as I had an ectopic pregnancy. From the nurses in A&E on arrival especially Amy to the catering staff on the wards were so lovely and kind.
I had surgery with Dr.Rishi who met with me before and after surgery and explained everything to me. He was so understanding, kind and made me feel so at ease. The Anesthesiologist Ann who met with me before my surgery was absolutely amazing she sat with me and really made me feel like I was in good hands.
A special mention to my nurses in the Gynaecology ward 36 & 37 Maria and Fabi , who took such good care of me and had lovely chats.

I am extremely disappointed with the overall visitor management and basic facilities at this hospital. While I am not commenting on the medical treatment itself, the experience for family members and visitors was highly unsatisfactory.
There is no proper waiting or seating area for visitors, which is unacceptable—especially in situations involving childbirth, a moment that is deeply emotional and important for families. Instead of showing understanding or empathy, the staff handled the situation in a very disrespectful manner.
We were treated as if we were doing something wrong, and security was unnecessarily involved, creating an uncomfortable and humiliating environment for our family. Such behavior is neither professional nor compassionate, particularly in a healthcare setting where sensitivity and respect should be a priority.
Hospitals should ensure not only quality medical care but also basic courtesy, clear communication, and humane treatment of patients’ families. This experience was disappointing and does not reflect the standards one would expect from a professional healthcare institution.
Note: they didn’t mention anything specifically family cannot visit or. Anything expect if you have any flu we stand near the entrance for more than 2hours
I rarely write reviews, but this is an experience I want to share with everyone who is facing the choice of where to welcome the happiest day of their life.
The Rotunda is truly the best place to bring a new life into the world. It is a place where care is given not only to your baby, but to you first and foremost. From the moment you arrive until the day you are discharged, you feel safe, respected, and comfortable.
I am originally from Ukraine, where the maternity care system unfortunately leaves much to be desired. This was my first baby, and my labour was very long — 42 hours from the moment I arrived at the hospital until my baby was born. And yet, during all that time, I genuinely felt better there than I would have at home.
There was always access to a warm bath whenever I needed it. The food and snacks were excellent. Even if you did not bring anything with you, they made sure you always had something to eat and drink.
The delivery rooms were spotless, modern, spacious, and comfortable, with enough room for both you and your partner. My midwife stayed with me throughout the entire process.
Nothing was ever done without my consent. Before every procedure, everything was explained clearly — what it was for and why it was needed. The bathrooms and showers were always impeccably clean, fully stocked with toilet paper, maternity pads, wipes, and everything necessary for a comfortable recovery.
During our entire stay, my husband and I always had fresh, crisp bed linen that was changed regularly. Not once did I feel embarrassed, uncomfortable, or vulnerable. The staff treated me with incredible gentleness, dignity, and care at every stage of labour and recovery. Everything was done with my comfort in mind.
After the birth, they even brought coffee and snacks to our room so we could spend quiet time with our baby, enjoy some food, and rest before being transferred to the ward.
The postnatal wards are large, yet still feel surprisingly private. The curtains provide very good separation from other mothers, while help is always nearby whenever you need it.
I would especially like to thank the midwives, doctors, and surgeons. They are true heroes. They do the impossible every single day. Every member of staff was compassionate, positive, patient, and always willing to answer questions or offer advice. The level of support was exceptional. Every person I encountered performed their work to the highest standard, and there was not a single moment where I doubted anyone’s professionalism or dedication.
Despite being incredibly busy with my labour and postpartum stitching, the doctor still took the time to congratulate us, shake my hand, and say warm, kind words. That level of humanity and teamwork is deeply impressive.
I would also like to express special gratitude to the neonatal intensive care team — the wonderful women who care for babies 24/7 and help them begin their journey into life.
And a very special thank you to breastfeeding specialist Lisa Carroll. If you have doubts, difficulties, or questions about breastfeeding, she is absolutely incredible. She is a true source of knowledge and such a kind and supportive woman. I chose exclusive breastfeeding, and she played a huge role in helping me succeed.
Finally, I never could have imagined that childbirth could feel this comfortable and leave me with such happy memories. I truly wish every woman the same experience — or even better.
