Review for Cork University Hospital (CUH) ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5) My experience at CUH was a clear reflection of the highs and lows of the Irish healthcare system. From a clinical perspective, the hospital is outstanding. The medical staff, from the consultants down to the student nurses, are incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and empathetic. You can tell they are working under immense pressure, yet they still manage to treat patients with dignity and take the time to explain what is happening with your care. The main drawback, which is well-documented, is the waiting time. If you are entering through the Emergency Department, prepare for a very long stay in the waiting area. The facility is clearly stretched to its limit, and the volume of people can be overwhelming at peak times. It requires a lot of patience to navigate the system here. In terms of logistics, the hospital is clean and well-signposted, though its size can be intimidating. Parking is notoriously difficult and quite expensive, so I’d highly recommend arriving much earlier than your scheduled time or using public transport if possible. Overall, while the administrative and waiting side of things can be frustrating, the actual quality of healthcare you receive once you are "in the system" is second to none. Hi gang gang

I had to go to a&e early Tuesday 23/6. I have to message -the staff were so kind. A nurse called Val in triage was finishing a long shift and was so kind. Also nurse Anna & a young doctor with glasses sorry can’t remember his name. CUH are lucky to have such a great team. Thank you.

Extremely disappointing experience. I attended Cork University Hospital while pregnant and was left waiting for almost 10 hours. This is completely unacceptable for any patient, especially a pregnant woman. I understand that emergency departments can be busy, but there was almost no communication, no updates and no explanation for such an excessive delay. I felt ignored, anxious and completely unsupported throughout the entire experience. Patients deserve to be treated with dignity and kept informed, especially during pregnancy. I sincerely hope the hospital reviews its organisation and patient care because no one should have to go through what I experienced.

I accompanied a very unwell older person to the Emergency Department on 04/05/2026. Despite being super busy, as always, the person received excellent and timely care. Within 20 minutes of arriving, the person was on a bed (not a trolley), had blood tests taken, oxygen administered, ECG done, medication administered, XRay done and results back. They were taken care of by staff nurse Róisin and Dr. Tom, both of whom were professional, reassuring and efficient. I really could not find fault with CUH ED. All the staff we met were excellent and treated the person with respect, dignity and compassion. 10 out of 10 for efficiency, care and dedication.

I was recently brought to CUH by ambulance. Even though I spend a night in ED where the staff were marvelous and kind . I was moved to the 3 rd flood where my consultant Dr. Farid Amed Toor could not have been nicer and so helpful. The staff were incredible kind. and helpful. I have been in a few hospitals but my experience here was top class. Well done to all. Thank you.

I was with my son couple of months back at cork hospital (injured finger, badly needed plastic surgery) They did amazing job with that. Long story in short after almost 9 hrs waiting in Limerick Regional pediatric "emergency" room, my Boy was sent to Cork. When we went over a day after the long wait they were supposed be waiting for Him as we were told in Limerick. They said they're expecting Him, obviously did not hear anything about referral from UHL (the worst hospital in Ireland) even though they didn't, they still accepted him for a surgery. All doctors and nurses were very friendly and professional. I would highly recommend this hospital. I am very grateful they helped Him despite the fact that University Hospital Limerick staff lied about almost everything, being sent away after 9 hours of waiting with a 2 years old Little Boy who was in incredible pain. Thank you Cork University Hospital.

I recently attended the Emergency Department at Cork University Hospital and had a very positive experience. I was seen by Irish doctors whose names I unfortunately do not remember, but I was impressed by their calm, professional, and considerate approach. I felt listened to and taken seriously, and everything was explained clearly. Further tests were arranged promptly, which I appreciated and found reassuring. I would also like to mention a lovely lady from the cleaning staff who was working the night shift. She was very kind, helpful and assisted me with ordering a taxi, which I was very grateful for. Overall, the care and support I received were excellent.

I cannot speak highly enough of Cork University Hospital. From start to finish, the care I received was exceptional. Every member of staff I encountered — doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, and support staff — were professional, compassionate, and genuinely caring. The facilities were excellent, clean, and well organised, and it was clear that patient comfort and dignity are a real priority. The staff took the time to explain everything clearly, answered questions with patience, and made what could have been a stressful experience feel calm and reassuring. CUH is a credit to the Irish healthcare system, and I am extremely grateful for the outstanding care and kindness shown by Dr. Kevin O'Connor and all the staff of CUH. Will be forever in their debt. Thank you so much for looking after me.
