The hospital is a little dated but still fit for purpose. It has lots of parking but it's still difficult to find a spot to park.
There are good links to public transport and I'd advise getting a taxi or using the public transport links (Metrolink).
The staff are lovely (over worked, underpaid), from the first person you meet at the door until you leave at the end of your visit. Mostly. The wards do seem to be loaded heavily with students run by one experienced member of staff. Who clearly can't handle a whole ward by themselves.
You have to remember that most trainees can't really make any decisions because of there protocols, regardless of how much they want to or you want them to.
There are shops within the hospital for all you essential snack, reading and general distraction needs.
It's a big place so if you have difficulty walking ask one of the helpful staff for directions and possibly a chair with wheels.
Overall some good people doing an amazing job.
It's a charity too so if you feel the need...
A visit to Wythenshawe A&E one evening this week when my Dad had a fall and did some real damage to his arm and hand.
Parking outside was easy and efficient.
A 5 hour wait on the board, but we were seen extremely quickly and were taken through to x ray.
After only 2 hours we were seen by the most delightful Nurse Practitioner, William. The treatment and his bedside manner were absolutely faultless. He took his time, was gentle and caring and explained the treatment in a very clear and respectful manner.
An hour later we were patched up and home. Everything about the Hospital and its staff was superb. I’m sure this standard of care will definitely help with my Dads recovery ❤️🩹
I had a 5 day stay in the emergency gynae unit last year - I just wanted to say all the staff there were so lovely to me and were very attentive while I was going through a really scary and upsetting time. The ward were accommodating and let my partner stay with me because I was anxious which helped a lot. I can't thank them enough because I know the NHS is really struggling right now.
We found the a.i.c.u team to be caring and thoughtful , especially because they allowed me to stay close to our loved one. They tried hard to make this difficult journey as smooth as possible. They constantly kept me up to date an helped us all come together around him. The surgoens have been honest and empathetic and always around and approachable.
We want to thank everyone of this team for being so amzing.
Thankyou so much.
We have been attending Wythenshaw for the last few years regularly.Staff have always been friendly . hospital is always clean and tidy . It's a large hospital with multiple entrances for different departments. There is a good range of food options . There are a large number of parking spaces across multiple car parks some closer than others . Parking spaces for blue badges is somewhat limited but if you don't mind waiting for ten mins or so you will usually get a space .My advise get there earlier than your appointment . The hospital is also on a bus route
I just have to say the Biggest possible thankyou to ALL the wonderful staff at Wythenshawe Hospital. They saved my husband’s life yesterday. The kindness and care shown to both my husband and his family has been exceptional. I don’t believe he would have survived without them and I don’t believe there could be any better medical care anywhere in the world. My husband has made a remarkable recovery and I barely have the words to express my gratitude. Keep up the good work you wonderful people.
The nurses were the best thing in that whole experience. Doctors and reception staff who would rather look you dead in your face whilst waiting to be seen, rather than attempt to get the queue down. Then give attitude and slag you off to colleagues once you've booked in thinking you can't hear them. If you don't like your job, LEAVE!!!
Is this hospital failing? I’d say so! I’m advised by Trafford General urgent care to go in to Wythenshawe A and E as they were closing at the end of the day. I’ve got suspected blood clot in my leg. My veins are difficult to access, so I’ve brought a hot water bottle and am drinking plenty of water. Triage nurse saw me straight away. Shortly after that I’m called for bloods. The nurse was quite rude and seemed annoyed that I’m one of them that getting bloods from can be tricky. She accessed 1 vein but couldn’t get all bloods required. I offered her my other arm ( which, yes could get lymphoedema). I’m told in 23 years she’s never taken blood from an arm without lymph nodes. I say Well it’s ok for the Christie to take bloods from there just not put anything in. Doesn’t even try. So just 1 attempt made. I’m told to wait for a Dr to use some technique where the veins can be seen. 2and half hours later I’m still waiting and that’s on a night where the doctors were in, because they were scheduled to work to cover the now cancelled junior doctors strike. Clearly not an emergency to them so I left!
