Vincenzo Andrea Catanzaro
Dear Nelson practice,
I am writing to make a formal complaint about the way I and my three‑year‑old child were treated at your practice on 17/01/2026 at 15:50.
We had an appointment for my child’s vaccination. Due to heavy traffic, we arrived approximately 10 minutes late. I apologised at reception and asked to check in. The receptionist (a lady with curly hair) told me that the doctor/nurse would not see us because we were late, without appearing to check with the clinician.
When I explained that there was traffic and that it was only 10 minutes I said please you can’t send me home, I was told words to the effect of: “This is UK and I can send you home, now SIT and WAIT.” I experienced this as rude, aggressive and said in a racist tone. I felt I was being disrespected and discriminated against, especially as I was there with a small child.
I was then told to sit and wait, but after around 30 minutes another person informed me that the doctor/nurse would still not see us. I do not understand why I was told to wait if it had already been decided that we would not be seen.
This situation caused significant distress to me and my child, and delayed an important vaccination. I consider the receptionist’s behaviour and language unacceptable and not in line with NHS standards of respect and equality.
I would like this to be investigated under your NHS complaints procedure. Specifically, I would like:
1. A clear explanation of why my child was refused the appointment for being 10 minutes late.
2. An explanation of why we were asked to sit and wait when it appears the decision not to see us had already been made.
3. Confirmation of what action will be taken regarding the receptionist’s behaviour and the discriminatory tone of the remark “this is UK I can send you home, now sit and wait”.
4. Assurance that this will not happen again to us or to other patients, and information on any staff training or changes you will make.
5. A new appointment for my child’s vaccination as soon as possible.
Please acknowledge this complaint and let me know how it will be investigated and the timescale for your response.
Overall the GP is really good and I rarely ever have a problem. However, Sarah Cunningham is the most emotionless person I have ever come across and has not got the slightest bit of empathy on her face, tone or manner. If you need any help with anything related to mental health whatsoever, stay away from her. She also referred me to SLP employment support which I didn’t consent to, has no relevance and is not even been recorded within the GP she’s done that.
I am new in this practice and following some online reviews, I want to thank the practice staff for the politeness and professionalism. The front desk staff was very helpful guiding us how to book appointments within the new system.
I could find and book appointments quickly, my GP listened and helped me with my issues and I usually finish with bruises when getting blood tests but the phlebotomist Vinica was amazing, I didn’t even feel the needle! Being a person who Always have bad experiences, today she made my day!
Very rude receptionist. I needed information about blood test booking for a child and she was very rude saying I shouldn’t have called that number. However, I called because I needed help and I was confused with other extensions.
My experience today was incredibly disappointing. I arrived a few minutes late and then had to wait another five minutes in the queue before the receptionist even checked me in. When she finally attended to me she immediately said I was “super late” despite it only being ten minutes past my scheduled time. I had informed her of my lateness beforehand. Even though I was only ten minutes late not an hour half an hour or any other significant amount.
Instead of quickly asking the doctor if he could still see me, the receptionists spent more time trying to “prove a point” that I was late, rather than actually helping. They wasted precious minutes discussing it amongst themselves, instead of simply checking with the doctor.
In the end, the doctor refused to see me and told me to go to A&E — even though my situation could involve an infection.
Even if he didn’t want to do a full consultation, he could have at least re-prescribed the medication, which I’ve taken before and know is appropriate for this condition. But he chose to dismiss me completely.
What shocked me the most is the lack of compassion.
Doctors study to save lives, yet today I witnessed total indifference.
There was another patient, a man with a baby in who arrived about 5 minutes late and they also refused to see him.
Is going home on time really more important than patient safety?
This level of disregard is unacceptable. Patients deserve respect, urgency and humanity — none of which were shown today.
I need to look at the call Centre staff and their way of answering the phones pathetic.. I called up today to make an appointment and she said I should be using a link sent to the phone. I said I am travelling at the moment so I really appreciate if I can make the booking over the phone. Not at all friendly… Very pushy.. and no empathy at all .. very unpleasant
Had an appointment today for a blood test. Logged in and was seen 20 minutes early. The nurse was so friendly and I was in and out in less than five minutes.
