I feel compelled to share my profound gratitude and write this review for the incredible team at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. In times of vulnerability and health crises, a hospital is more than just a building; it is the people within it who truly make all the difference. The dedication, expertise, and sheer humanity displayed by the entire NHS staff here deserve the highest possible praise. From the very second you cross the threshold, the warmth and professionalism are palpable. During my time here, I witnessed firsthand the relentless pace at which these incredible individuals work, yet they never once let the pressure compromise the standards of their patient care. The doctors are exceptionally skilled, taking the time to explain complex medical procedures with clarity, ensuring that you feel like a partner in your own healthcare journey rather than just a number. But it is the nursing staff, healthcare assistants, and ward teams who truly act as the beating heart of the Royal. Their endless compassion, sweet temperaments, and gentle reassurance during the quiet, scary hours of the night are something I will never forget. They manage to balance demanding clinical duties with those small, beautiful acts of kindness—a warm blanket, a comforting word, or simply a reassuring smile—that preserve a patient’s dignity when they need it most. This praise extends to every single unsung hero under the roof: the incredibly patient receptionists who guide worried families, the hardworking domestic staff keeping the wards clean, the security teams keeping everyone safe, and the porters who transport patients with a friendly word of encouragement. Our NHS is a national treasure, and the team at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital is a shining example of why. To every single member of the team: thank you for your selflessness, your tireless dedication, and your unwavering care. You don't just save lives—you touch them deeply.

I would really like to thank Eva at St Paul’s Eye Clinic, Liverpool Hospital, for the incredible care and professionalism she showed towards my partner. She noticed something extremely small in his eye that even the doctors had initially missed. What impressed me the most was that she truly stood by her judgement and did not simply ignore what she had seen. She respectfully insisted and even took the time to show the doctor properly, and in the end, the doctor was able to see it too. If Eva had not spoken up or trusted her own professional opinion, my husband could have easily been sent home without the issue being noticed. Her attention to detail, confidence, dedication, and genuine care made a huge difference for us, and we are deeply grateful. Eva is an outstanding practitioner, compassionate, observant, and highly professional. People like her are truly valuable in healthcare. I honestly believe she has a very bright future ahead of her and will continue helping many people with the same care and dedication. Thank you again, Eva, for everything you did for us at St Paul’s Eye Clinic, Liverpool Hospital. Your care and determination will not be forgotten.

I am leaving this review to document my experience seeking care for a flare of a diagnosed inflammatory bowel condition, as I feel it highlights serious issues around the management of patients with less common diseases. I have an established diagnosis of a rare form of colitis, which I have lived with for several years. Several weeks ago, I developed a significant flare with worsening symptoms including but not limited to pain, bleeding, and night-time symptoms waking me from sleep. These symptoms were persistent and progressively worsening, with a major impact on my ability to function day to day. I sought help through multiple routes. I attended two GP appointments, had two further GP phone consultations, and was seen in Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). Each GP who assessed me recognised the severity of my symptoms and repeatedly attempted to escalate my care to gastroenterology, expressing concern that I was experiencing an active inflammatory flare requiring treatment. Despite this, no treatment was initiated. Following my SDEC attendance, I was prescribed only haemorrhoid cream despite not having haemorrhoids, which was confirmed on examination. This treatment does not address colitis or my symptoms. After further escalation attempts, I was given an urgent outpatient gastroenterology appointment. At this review, I explained my ongoing symptoms. The consultant acknowledged that I required steroid treatment but stated that no treatment would be given until after a repeat colonoscopy, with no date or timescale given for this. I was offered only Buscopan for symptom relief, which I had previously advised does not work for me, and does not treat the underlying inflammation. Following this appointment, the consultant contacted me again by phone. During this call, steroid treatment was again refused. Instead, I was advised to undertake a six-food elimination diet, despite explaining at the previous appointment that I have already tried this approach previously over several years without benefit. I was also advised that managing my asthma might help treat my bowel disease, despite my colitis remaining untreated. At no point was any interim or bridging anti-inflammatory treatment offered, despite acknowledged active disease, ongoing bleeding, night-time symptoms, and clear impact on my health and quality of life. I was left actively unwell and struggling to manage symptoms while waiting for further investigation. I understand the importance of appropriate investigations such as colonoscopy. However, in my experience, this was prioritised over treating an established inflammatory condition and preventing deterioration. I found it distressing to be left without treatment despite repeated assessments and escalation, particularly as a patient with a confirmed diagnosis. I am sharing this experience in the hope that the trust reflects on how patients with rare or less familiar conditions are managed, and ensures that active disease is treated safely and promptly rather than leaving patients without care.

I would like to show my deep appreciation for the staff at the royal I've just spent five days on acute medical 1 ward, and observed the professional attitude of all the staff, from porters to consultants, they have gone out of their way to make my stay comfortable and explored all possibilities what I have. It's obvious they have staffing shortages in all depts, but still provide a level of service that is outstanding. It is such a shame that GP surgeries don't provide such a service Thank to all personnel at the Royal, for being a hospital of great service Thank you once again 🙏

During a recent visit to Liverpool I had a really bad fall and was taken to Royal Liverpool emergency department. The staff were amazing - reception, triage, nurses, junior doctors, radiographers & doctors and the care I received was second to none. I can't praise you all enough. From arriving to leaving I was there for around 4 hours and had x-rays done on my knee. Thankfully nothing was broken. Thank you so much to you all.

I have been on critical care A since my surgery on the 17th March. I can only say that the whole team have been amazing, from cleaners, the man who brings around the food, the care assistants, nurses both day and night staff plus all the other support teams like physio, pain support and anyone else I may have missed out. They have all been amazing and so caring. They seem to all enjoy the work they do and together they make a fantastic team that provides the best care and support. The hospital should be very proud of the level of care and dedication the team provided every day I was in the hospital. I can't sing their praises high enough. So pleased I had my surgery here I liverpool. If all other wards are as good as this ( and I don't doubt it) then the liverpool royal in my eyes and experience is an NHS hospital that is showcasing the excellence that is the NHS.

Soulful Master

I am extremely disappointed with the aftercare following my implant insertion. The margins of the incision were not aligned or sutured properly; instead, medical glue was just applied over the open gap. To make matters worse, the doctor brushed it off by saying, 'Your skin is young and good, it won't split.' Because of this negligent approach, the wound healed with poor approximation, leaving me with a wide, 6mm scar. This is deeply upsetting.😔
