The nurses, receptionist and doctors are lovely. All have been very helpful especially Dr Harriet, i believe when she delivers her advice and such she is so helpful, answers enquiries, orders any tests and extremely empathetic and supportive something Dr Chloe Freeman lacks. Dr Freeman was rude, condescending and would brush off all enquiries after waiting over an hour for a BOOKED appointment. Having a second doctors opinion as i believe Miss Chloe Freeman did not help at all when discussing an issue both teachers, pharmacists, and 111 have advised needed urgent care which Miss Freeman believed was not.
I've only had good experiences with staff at this health centre, for the last 8 years.
They are personable, they listen, are happy to discuss things, and are always interested in getting the best outcome - not just the easiest one.
The only downsides are it isn't always easy to get appointments and I rarely get seen exactly on time (I don't particularly care about that as it is rarely a long wait)... But those seem to be wider NHS primary care issues, and I think the reason appointments get behind is because they want to give the patients before the attention they need.
My thanks to all the staff who have seen me over the years.
Trying to book an appointment is really bad, you need to book online 24 hours before you need to see a doctor or nurse.
I tried booking online only to find out that all requests had been fully booked so no way to get appointment.
Phoned and spoke to the receptionist whi said there were no available slots, when I explained the situation, they spoke to someone and agreed a slot.
When I arrived at the practice there was two people in the waiting room, which surprised me as everything was fully booked.
When I was called the nurses explained that it was fully booked but when they saw what I needed managed to fit me in the following day, the nurses were fantastic with what they did and the attention they gave me.
The wait time with in-person visit even if one arrives on time or by telephone is not the best. Booking and getting appointments is not easy. Some receptionist are excellent, but a few needs extra 'how to handling patients' training. They really need to consider how they treat patients, their manners both in terms of their facial and verbal expressions. People need to be greeted and treated with card and respect - as like attract like. However, the service one receives from Doctors and Practitioners are always good and supportive and listened to with care. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The space itself is clean with a spacious waiting area. Lots of local community health activities on display on the notice board too, and a there is great garden space where the sky, nature, and lovely plants and flowers can be seen through the large open plan ceiling to floor windows whist waiting, brilliant!
The nurse/HCSW who attended me did not wiped my skin prior taking my bloods, by the time I was about to say it she was already in with the needle. I ask her after, if in the GP surgeries they do not wipe the skin anymore and she replied 'no there is no need, your skin is clean, if It is not then I will wipe it'. I was shocked by that answer. Being an ICU nurse I found absolutely disgusting, unprofessional and disappointed that those kind of nurses/HCSW are allowed to work.
The worst thing is that is not the first time that it happens to me, on a previous blood test the nurse/HCSW did not use gloves.
That's a reflection of the need of an audit and training of the staff. I wish I can do a datix of this.
After being told to see my GP by a pharmacist (for a bad reaction to a bee sting), I was pleased and surprised when the receptionist arranged a doctors callback, the outcome of which was an appointment later that day. I was then able to pick up a prescription and immediately start treatment. I didn't expect such a speedy resolution.
The clinicians here are lovely and helpful but being able to actually get an appointment is difficult.
I've witnessed staff members at reception arguing with people who struggle with online booking instead of treating them with kindness and understanding.
Admin mistakes are neither apologised for nor rectified when brought up via econsult or over the phone.
This surgery does not accept shared care requests from private clinicians so don't bother here if you're trans and getting private hrt.
I am writing to raise serious concerns about the care I received at Lawrence Hill Health Centre, particularly from Dr Charles Dixon.
Approximately one month ago, my mental health began to deteriorate significantly. During a phone consultation, Dr Dixon was dismissive, did not allow me to fully explain my condition, and his communication came across as rude and unhelpful.
I later had an in-person appointment regarding my worsening mental health. While his tone was somewhat better, no appropriate action was taken. I was neither prescribed medication nor referred to a psychiatrist. Instead, I was advised to consult my doctor in India, despite being in urgent need of support within the UK system.
Following this, my condition worsened severely. I experienced extreme insomnia for five consecutive days and uploaded my prescription to the practice system, requesting guidance. I received no response. As my condition escalated, I was forced to attend emergency services twice. The hospital also contacted the GP practice regarding my situation, yet I was not followed up.
On attending the practice again, despite an emergency appointment being recorded in my name, I was turned away without appropriate care or assessment.
This lack of timely intervention and support led to a critical deterioration in my mental health, culminating in a hospitalisation due to an overdose — a situation that could have been fatal.
The following day, Dr Dixon contacted me again but remained dismissive, did not allow me to speak, and showed no acknowledgement or sensitivity towards the fact that I had just experienced a suicide attempt. Instead, I was blamed for seeking medication advice externally.
This experience reflects a serious failure in duty of care, communication, and patient safety. I believe the handling of my case was negligent and could have resulted in loss of life.
I urge the practice to review its procedures for handling mental health crises, improve patient communication, and ensure that urgent cases receive appropriate and timely care.
