First time coming to this hospital! I came to visit a family member, who had her own room and it was nice and clean plus the staff were lovely and helpful.
The reception area was busy and it’s the first time going to a hospital and seeing patients lined up on beds out in the open, no privacy. I give thanks that my family member had her own private room. 🙏
I really like the hospital history on the walls and how much black people work there from Drs, Nurses, Porters, Cleaners.
I think it says a lot about the NHS and how multicultural it is.
Well done to all NHS workers, hospitals wouldn’t be able to function without you all.

I understand that health services are a very subjective and emotive experience, but you get the hospital your government funds, and on every visit I've had the staff are patient, compassionate and helpful in what is a drastically underfunded setting. It's not clean, its amenities aren't reliable, but I always get the sense that there's some aspect of service design that's oriented around patients and the staff and volunteers are really trying to make it work. Not the hospital's fault it's cash-strapped!
I had a good experience at Croydon Hospital this week. I went to get a tooth extraction under GA and it went smoothly.
I took note of the following people:
1. Suziye Mehmet - the consultant who conducted a smooth survey
2. Eleanor - the lady who administered the anaesthesia who explained the details of what would take place and made me feel calm.
3. Ashleigh - the health care assistant who was very pleasant and checked on me several times trying her best to keep me updated.
4. Ronald - the nurse who looked after me and was very calm and reassuring, he also helped me to the toilet when feels a little dizzy.
The waiting time was about 10 hours. The reception staff was generally helpful. I have some reservations about the security; unfortunately, they stood in the corner and did not doing proply job.
about doctors and care:
All necessary tests were done, and they did everything they could. The problem is the patient calling system. The names should be displayed on the screen, not individually; people are looking for the patient, wasting too much time. Two helpful nurses, very nice and smiling, probably from Poland.
“The average waiting time is around 12 hours, which seems to be treated as normal. Some staff members can be quite rude, and the cleanliness is extremely poor. For example, I witnessed bodily fluids on the floor that were left uncleaned for more than two hours. This raises serious concerns about hygiene and patient care.”
I have now visited this A&E twice, and unfortunately both experiences have been very disappointing. During my most recent visit, I was 19 weeks pregnant and suffering from severe throat pain, shivering, and difficulty swallowing. I waited for over six hours before being seen. By that time, I had developed significant abdominal and back pain from sitting and waiting for so long.
The waiting area was also very unpleasant due to a strong bad smell, making it uncomfortable to sit there for hours. After the long wait, I was informed that I would be receiving IV fluids while sitting in a plastic chair, despite being in considerable pain and pregnant.
I was also upset by the attitude of the receptionist, who spoke to me in a rude and dismissive manner. I understand that A&E departments are busy and under pressure, and I appreciate the efforts of the medical staff who treated me, but patients deserve to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.
Sadly, this is the second time I have had a poor experience here. I hope the hospital reviews both the environment and the quality of patient care to ensure that others do not have to go through the same experience.
I am so disappointed and disgusted in the care that has NOT been provided to my mum.
We have been here since 11:00 it is currently 17:44 and we are yet to see the doctor.
No one has taken any blood or urine sample for testing.
Mum came in feeling sick and nothing was done about her sickness.
She had surgery under three weeks ago and her care doesn’t seem to be important to CUH.
We came with an appointment at 11am at MSDEC and all that has been done is a CT scan where they have inserted a cannula wrong so the liquid has overflown out of her veins and into her arm making it swollen and painful.
I have asked Janice in the MSDEC department over 5 times what is happening and she keeps telling me you are waiting for the doctor. It has been over 7 hours and we are still waiting for a doctor.
They have neglected her since morning and when we decided we had been here for long enough with no care Janice responded with we have other patients and you have to wait for a doctor.
This is not the care that should be allowed to take place.
@croydonuniversityhospital needs to look into the staff and care that is provided.
Waiting over 7 hours with no care is not acceptable
I would like to share my experience from my visit in Ultrasound department in Croydon University Hospital on Sunday. I have been examined by lovely lady Stella, and not only that my appointment was on time, but she was also very friendly, experienced, informative and helpful. I will be very happy to go there again.
