I normally do not leave negative reviews, but I feel it is important to share my experience regarding billing and refund issues with this office.
I paid toward a maternity package with Plaza OBGYN, but due to multiple provider changes and issues with continuing care through the practice, I ultimately did not deliver with them and was told I was too far along to transfer to another provider within the office.
I have been attempting to obtain my remaining refund ~$500 since October 2025. I have made multiple phone calls over several months and sent formal written requests by email, but I have still not received a response or resolution.
I understand offices can be busy, but the lack of communication regarding a patient refund for this length of time has been extremely frustrating.
My experience at this office has been terrible.
I am currently 17 weeks and have been seeing Dr. Balat since (2/20/26) at 9 weeks. Given that this is my second pregnancy I am aware of how doctor visits and ultrasounds are supposed to go.
I've realized that each time my ultrasounds have been rushed (less than 30 secs seems like), the technology is not up to date to see sonograms clearly and he seems more concerned with how my fiancé is doing and not the one actually carrying. He doesn't go over lab results and forgets to tell me that my iron is low and has his nurse run down the hall as I'm checking out to tell me I need to buy iron pills. When I mentioned that my last ultrasound felt rushed on (4/29/26) instead of acknowledging my concerns, he got very smart with me, basically saying he didn't have to do an ultrasound like he was doing me a favor when truly he just wanted to charge my insurance. He then raised my blood pressure even higher after the nurse had gotten it back down to normal levels. When he goes to check it again, he squeezed my arm very hard, when it didn't take much pressure to apply it. I knew then he was doing it out of spite.
He told me he would transfer me to another doctor for a "better scan" at my next visit and when i told him I was already taking action to finding another doctor, he then proceeds to get smart with me again. My fiancé even noticed his actions towards me. He didn't even care to schedule me a follow up appointment given that it is protocol to do so until the transfer is complete.
So I immediately sent over my medical release form to transfer doctors on (5/1) with a 7-10 turn business day turn around.
On 5/4, I had a severe allergic reaction causing major inflammation/swelling and was unable to walk/work for the whole week. Went to the ER on 5/5 because after my last exchange with Dr. Balat, I did not feel comfortable going back. The issue was not resolved and I ended up nursing myself back to health just enough to go back to work. On Monday 5/11 I was able to get a new patient follow up appointment with Complete Women's Care Center who was able to get me a follow up appointment to help take care of my needs but also informed me that my medical forms had still not been released to the doctor I chose at their practice. I called Plaza Obgyn on (5/12) to check on the status and was told it took 7/10 days with today, (5/15) being the 10th day. I called back this afternoon and was sent to voicemail 3 times. I called back on my work phone 10 seconds after and someone immediately answered, like my number was purposely sent to voicemail.
I asked for the same woman i spoke to regarding my forms and was told that she was out of office and would return on Tuesday.
I informed her that I had just had a medical emergency and needed to know if my forms were released so I could make a new appointment with my preferred doctor and she said there was nothin she could do nor anyone else to speak to.
I truly hate that i chose this office.
I am beyond stressed dealing with this situation.
They show know true compassion for their patients needs.
If i could give 0 stars i would.
This practice is wonderful. I have seen Dr. Balat (both father and son) and I feel like I'm in great hands. They are both very patient, knowledgeable, and affable doctors.
It's also in prime location--right by the museum district and there's a Fadi's in the building!
Good luck making an appointment. I’ve been calling since last week and filled out the form to be contacted for an appointment online. Mind you, I am also an existing patient 😂 please hire a new receptionist who actually answers the phone or at the very least will call back after multiple voicemails.
This office is great! All of the staff are friendly and professional. I want to take this time to specifically thank Dr. Balat for everything he has done for me from the beginning when I was pregnant until I delivered. Dr. Balat really cares about his patients. As a first time mom, I was anxious about everything but he made me feel secure on every visit. Dr. Balat listens attentively and gave his opinions about what could be best. My husband and I truly love him. May God bless Dr. Balat and his crew. I am forever grateful 😊
Dr. Anika Galagoda has my 10/10 recommendation as an OB. She listens and she’s informative. She is confident and cool.. she looks so young so at first I was nervous but she very professional and took everything head on! I have a seamless c-section scar and we had no problems delivering my daughter! She was fast and careful and did I mention very good energy! S/o to Parkplaza MD!!
Alexa has always provided prompt and professional service at Plaza OB/GYN and Associates, and I was thrilled to hear she has returned to the office. When I reached out today, she took the time to ensure I fully understood my medication, which I truly appreciate. Her return is such wonderful news, and I want to send a huge thank you to Alexa so always returning and being so pleasant, knowledge, prompt and caring to patients.
I have been a patient of Dr. I. Balat for 30 years and his support staff has always been kind. I am so thrilled that he decided to come out of retirement.

Friendly staff! I am very pleased by the care I I got from Dr. Michael Balat. He patiently and respectfully listened to all of my questions. The answers he gave me were informative and satisfying. He and I worked out a treatment for me that I feel comfortable with.
I would confidently recommend him!
