I cannot thank the incredible team at Western General Hospital enough, especially everyone in Ward 57 and the CT Scan department. From the nurses and doctors to the professors, every single medical professional was exceptionally polite, kind, and professional. I am also deeply grateful to the cleaning staff and the porters who moved my wheelchair—everyone went above and beyond with amazing attitudes. As a patient, their warmth, care, and reassurances completely eased my anxiety and made me feel incredibly safe and looked after during my stay. Their exceptional dedication deserves the highest praise. Thank you all so much for everything you do.

On instructions from my MD i went to the WGH In Edinburgh with a letter explaining my symptoms and his recommendations. I absolutely hate hospitals which I suspect most people do . It’s not the staff (far from it ) just the general feeling I get in that sleeping in a room full of strangers is unsettling to say the least . Anyhoo having got that off my chest my experience at the WGH was an experience of understanding a bit more of the work these people put in over their shift ( maybe 14 hours ) , and they all seemed to smile when spoken to and answer any question that you have. To pick out any one person doesn’t seem to be fair on all the lovely staff but one female nurse in particular seemed to be everywhere at same time . She was doing everything from feeding us to taking blood samples and checking ecg . Her name is Nancy and I think American ( or Canadian ) . She is a wonderful nurse and made it look easy which of course it isn’t. In retrospect every part of my hospital experience was not of annoyance which I thought it was going to be but ( this sounds weird) but a good one . Thank you Nancy and please pass on too all the other staff and doctors on MAU base 1 . Male and female of course . I obviously don't look forward to another overnight stay but you have set a high benchmark mark now so it’s not so worrying. James Pedder. Thank you again .

This hospital, and most specifically, the caring staff within it, should be what EVERY NHS hospital in the UK should aspire to be. Having recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and just undergoing an extensive initial surgery to clear the cancer, I can hand on my heart say that these wonderful people (e.g., Oliver Young, Francesca in radiology, Debbie, my breast cancer nurse, Andrew and Olympia in anesthesia, and all of the caring staff on Ward 6) are at the very top of their respective fields . Every interaction has achieved the difficult balance of great communication and care whilst also applying the latest research and techniques. I feel like they see me as a person, not just another patient. I have a long road ahead still and am confident in this team to get me back to my best self <3 Thank you to the breast clinic and wonderful team at WGH.

I spent a week in the gastroenterology ward and was deeply disappointed by the way I was treated. Several doctors and staff came across as dismissive and rude during rounds and meal services, and I felt looked down upon rather than cared for as a patient. There was also a clear lack of mental health support during an already difficult time. I would strongly advise anyone attending alone to ensure they have support from family or friends where possible.

I went in for an operation which should have been 3 to 4 days stay, but due to lots of issues after it, was in for 6 weeks. Want to thank every member of staff I dealt with from porters, cleaners, nurses doctors, consultants, surgeons etc etc. Treated with respect, help and a good laugh now and again. Was in so many wards, but treated the same everywhere. Thanks is barely enough but heartfelt appreciation everyone.

To all the staff on ward 58 at the Western General who looked after my Dad while he was on palliative care , myself and my family can't thank you all enough. The work you all do is unbelievable, you didn't just give my dad the best care he needed to see out his days, you also gave us his family the most amazing care and support, nothing was ever to much for you all, from a cuppa to beds, showers ect ect.Your all so amazing so thoughtful and so special. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all the hard work you do on your ward. Thank you all, David Thomson

First time at this hospital whilst working away with not very nice cut to my finger that needing stitches. I was treated by Claire minor injuries who was absolutely lovely. Not looking foward to injections or the stitches she was very calming explained everything put me totally at ease. I was in and out in no time at all and back to work. A credit to the nhs it’s lovely to be treated by someone who cares. Thank you Claire Ps stitches look very neat. :) Nick

Mum is at the Western General at the moment and her care has been second to none. I've just called their switchboard, got through first time, waited a few minutes to speak to the nurse in mum's ward and got all my questions answered which has made me relax a lot. Cannot thank the nurses and doctors here enough.
