Just wanted to say a big thank you to all the staff we met at Holles Street.
I was admitted on Tuesday for an induction, and the care we received throughout was excellent. The team in Unit 3 were especially supportive during what was quite an anxious time. We may be missing some names, but we’d particularly like to thank Connie, Ellie, and Charlotte for their kindness, reassurance, and overall support they really made a daunting experience feel much more manageable, and we felt very well looked after. Ellie even came in early the next day to visit baby Hugh in the postnatal ward before her shift started!
Katie in the postnatal ward was also very helpful and reassuring. We also really appreciated the early discharge option, and had two great follow-up visits from Orla, as well as visits today from Claudia and Nicola, which were incredibly helpful.
Overall, we’re very grateful for the care and support we received throughout.
I gave birth in December last year, and my entire experience was amazing from start to finish. Everything went so smoothly, beginning with my very first appointment. Then at 28 weeks on I attended the day ward weekly due to high blood pressure, and the care I received throughout was consistently supportive and reassuring. When the time came, I was induced at 38 weeks, and again, everything was handled so calmly and professionally.
All of the midwives were incredibly kind and caring, but I’d especially like to mention Ismael (ismil) , the male midwife who delivered my son. Having a male midwife was something I hadn’t really considered before. At first, I was a bit confused and even mistook him for a doctor, but as soon as he introduced himself and explained that he would be delivering my baby, I immediately felt at ease. He was so calm, confident, and compassionate—I knew I was in safe hands.
I truly couldn’t have asked for a more positive and enjoyable experience. I’m so grateful for their care and support during such an important time.
I gave birth to my first baby here just over two weeks ago. I can't praise this hospital and its staff enough. That was the delivery experience I would wish on all the mothers. All the medical workers here were very caring and professional. I had a completely painless delivery, and our midwives Lowenna and Julie were just THE best, very supportive and reassuring! I can't thank them enough, as well as staff on the pre- and postnatal wards, the anaesthesiologist, the head midwife on that day, the doctor who did my sutures and baby doctor who identified my baby's breathing issues early on, thank to which it was quickly fixed.
I could not even have hoped for a smooth experience like that.
Generally a very good experience with this hospital. During my pregnancy I had to go to the emergency department twice and I was seen very quickly. It obviously depends on what time you go and how busy they are.
Once I was admitted to give birth it was mostly a positive experience, very few complaints. I didn’t feel listened to when I was 1cm dilated. I knew my contractions had gotten more intense but the midwife didn’t seem to take me seriously. I got the feeling that she thought I was being dramatic. I insisted on being examined and I was, in fact, in labour. Her tune changed then.
I would say the entire labour process was very smooth. I was given an epidural at 5cm upon my request, something I hadn’t planned on but would highly recommend. Pushing was very easy and my baby was born happy and healthy.
I will say that the night my baby was born they were extremely busy. The midwives were absolutely run off their feet. There was a few instances where equipment was out of battery or faulty and they seemed really under pressure. My birth was uncomplicated and everything went well so these are minor complaints.
I was a semi private patient and I was surprised that I was sharing a room with 5 other people. I thought it would be less but that’s probably me being a bit naive. I had zero experience with babies before having my own but there is no judgment from the midwives here. They showed me everything from how to pick up my baby, to how to change his nappy and how to help him latch. Very helpful!
I left the hospital feeling prepared and looked after. I also really enjoyed the food here. It’s not amazing or anything but it was nutritiously balanced and there’s three choices for every meal which really impressed me.
Overall I would recommend this hospital if you’re trying to choose one!
I can’t say enough good things about this hospital. The doctors and nurses are always absolutely incredible — so kind, caring and truly human in the way they treat you. They take the time to explain everything as many times as needed, and you never feel rushed or dismissed.
The care is quick and efficient, but at the same time so personal. You can genuinely feel that they truly care about your wellbeing, and that makes all the difference.
I chose this hospital, and I would choose it a thousand times over again. The professionals here are top class — first-rate in every way. Fair play to the hospital management as well, because you’ve built an exceptional team.

I don't recommend anyone to be in a bad condition, but I was extremely satisfied with the way people treat you in this place. Everyone is friendly and wants to help. Very clean place and good food! Many thanks
This is my second baby at Holles.
I paid for semi-private both times.
I am not so impressed with the following and i need to call out that the following is actually not true:
1. Continuity of carer - you will be seen by the same Obstetrician for your visits except when the Obstetrician is on leave or tending to an emergency.
In total I have had 5 different doctors and two officially "left" as in they either went to a different hospital or move countries. You will probably experience this significant Obstetrician turn over rate too. It has been a highly impersonal experience. You'll be waiting in a narrow corridor for sometimes an hour or two before your appointment. The Obstetrician don't explain things, you need to come prepare with questions or they will not volunteer explanations. Ex: I was offered a membrane sweep but never explain what it meant.
Come prepare with questions RISK, BENEFITS, ALTERNATIVES etc...
2. Fetal wellbeing ultrasound scan at each visit with your Consultant/Specialist Registrar.
The image quality is poor. You will not understand the scan but your obstetrician will take essential metrics to check the baby's growth.
The beds (in semi-private dorm), don't have side rails which in my opinion is not safe.
For my first baby I was induced with a pessary inserted, but the doctor AFTER putting her gloves on took her phone or beeper and then inserted the pessary without changing gloves again which is unhygienic, I took my by surprise, she was so busy that she didn't even notice, this time around I WILL ASK HER TO STOP AND PUT NEW GLOVES if this happens again.
I have not received an official response as to what is exactly happening to my placenta after giving birth.
The reception ladies and the following midwives: Amy and the lady doing thenGCT an and blood pressure, have been lovely and a positive highlight in this experience so far.
The good and great:
The midwives in the delivery ward are fantastic. Both times they have been excellent, the anesthesiologist also, both times the epidural was done successfully .
In the semi private post natal ward the staff was great this time around especially: Rachel, Ellie and Lucy.
Thank you to all the pediatricians for their help. I know they perform miracles everyday with all the diversity of neonatal issues that may arise.
The food is good a lot of choice and always served warm.
Thank you to a very busy but very good hospital which I hope will expand to a bigger and more modern building soon for the future generations of mums.

I contacted the hospital while pregnant and concerned about a possible complication, and the way I was spoken to was very disappointing. I understand there are protocols about only dealing with registered patients, but being told I was “wasting people’s time” when I was worried about my health was unnecessary and upsetting.
As a pregnant woman experiencing symptoms, I wasn’t calling casually — I was seeking guidance and reassurance. Even if they couldn’t treat me, the situation could have been handled with more empathy and basic respect.
No one expects special treatment, just a bit of understanding when reaching out for help during pregnancy.
