I was making a complaint here with st John a gods.
To tell my story how my life was destroyed because of a 3 month stay in there.
There was lots of emails back and forward since the 10th of April then I got a call on the 18th of may from a woman her name was Cathy i think she's the complaints manager.
First email i got back from them it sounded like they where going to be helpful with my complaint by investigating and looking into it so they got all my details.
But as the emails went on I knew they where never going to help, I've asked in so many emails for the person's name that was emailing me back and for the doctor's name that was responsible.
They will not give the doctors name or there own name after so many emails back and forward.
There saying it's out of there time frame to put a complaint in because they only give 12 months for the peoples lives they destroyed.
My story was i was a Dublin bus driver in ringsend garage and stress in work caused by some i worked with will bring me to St John a gods.
Thinking time of work will be good for me. I came with my wife and straight away they said I had bipolar.
They put me on medication that badly changed my character straight away and they had me flying around the place bursting with energy that wasn't me.
They changed the medication again and next im being taking out of st John a gods and brought to St Vincent hospital.
I was warned by a doctor in st Vincent hospital if I go back to St John a gods don't take there meds.
Meds where changed again and again before the 3 months was up. They had my brain in such a mess I didn't know what they where doing or who I was anymore.
Meds they sent me home on my mind was shattered in a deep hole of depression and I would never get back to work after a 3 month stay in st John a gods.
My wife left paying the mortgage and bills on her own that caused the end to my marriage 12 months later.
13 years later im still on disability because of st John a gods. And my body is falling apart because of type 1 diabetes that they caused.
The phone call I heard her say sorry once but I asked her could she put that on a letter. But I won't see that in the post any day soon
A psychiatrist it's like any job they can make mistakes and get it wrong. But knowing when to put your hands up and say sorry can be a hard thing to do. Showing a little compassion when needed.
I came here to st John a gods 13 years ago. I was a Dublin bus driver in ringsend garage.
Stress in work brought me here. The last time I parked the bus in the garage if only I knew what was coming next. That was the next 3 months in st John a gods.
The 3 months i had in there with all the different changes you made in the meds you caused type 1 diabetes plus i was sent home on meds because you said i had bipolar. That ended me in Dublin bus.
Once a month for 12 months I had to see the CMO doctor in Dublin bus to be told come back next month.
My marriage ended after the last time I seen the CMO. I'm on disability all these years struggling because of them meds.
With the help from my GP in the last 3 years I no longer take that type of medication and now im looking forward to trying to get my health back to finally start enjoying life again. My name is John hand.
Horrible care under Dr.Mitchell & team. Extremely insensitive to my problems and insisted after two weeks I was “not engaging” in the program despite only beginning the program. Used my past behaviours against me and did not give me the time of day.
During my time there, I was in St Joseph’s ward. A patient defected on one of the beds (my roommates) during the evening when most of us were chatting in the common area. They did nothing about this or finding a culprit. It was really distressing.
I was discharged after two weeks against my will for “not engaging” however, their discharge notes read otherwise - ie in need of someone to blame for pooing on a bed!?! They decided as I was newest on the ward I was a likely candidate. They did not treat me with respect nor try to help my case. They simply discarded me in order to get an easy payday from someone else.
They are not trying to treat the hard cases, they want an easy pay day - for example,- a lady was in there to get respite while having a divorce - she spent her days swanning around, reading books and getting her nails done. She did not need psychiatric help like the rest of us. Case in point - they’d take her 12/20 grand from the insurance and she doesn’t have to cook for a few weeks.
Disgraceful institution.
Edit: This pitiful response to my review, from “wecare” @ St John of Gods Stillorgan is simply a front to make it seem like they are doing something about the malpractice they are inflicting upon patients under their care. Since my review, I have reached out as requested and to zero avail. Please please please don’t send any of your family there to get better. They will leave worse off. They are using practices that are not used publicly anymore and getting away with it because they are private.
I was in st John of Gods hospital for about two months. I was admitted when I had some really bad anxiety. thankfully, i'm totally better now and haven't had any anxiety since ( nearly 5 years ago ) I was on st Bridgits ward for the most part. I found all the support staff and psychiatric nurses so helpful. Also , the main doctors ( psychiatrists ) I found to be so understanding, compassionate and helpful. I'm really glad I was here compared to another psych unit like the one in Blanchardstown. I also have to mention he grounds themselves. It's an absolutely beautiful hospital inside and out. The forest walk outside is a very pleasant and pleasing walk. There's also a little mini golf course that I went on a couple of times with my relatives who were visiting. For ANY parent whos wondering whether the care in here will help, HANDS DOWN it will ✔️😊 thanks for the team again for the couple of of months I spent here.
I was admitted into the hospital on November 30th 2024, I was in there on my road to recovery with severe depression and also suffering the effects of Borderline personality disorder, which had got worse over 3-4 years.
I was admitted and put in the care of the nurses and staff in St Paul's ward. From the second I arrived I was made to feel like I was more than just a patient. Every member of staff couldn't have done anymore. Every nurse went above and beyond to help me succeed in recovering and leaving better than I ever have been in my life, in March this year.
My MST team were were amazing, they took there time and worked with me to make me feel better. From changing my medication, to 1 to 1 psychology, and DBT therapy. I couldn't have got through it all without my team of doctors.
The whole staff I had treat me or look after me in the ward were the most respectful and truly wonderful people ive ever had the pleasure to meet.
Incredibly insensitive reception staff. Absolutely appalling treatment over the phone of a person seeking mental health services. Frankly disgusting behaviour. Reception staff needs more training or needs to find more compassionate individuals to work there.
This hospital, like any other hospital, is not fit for any purpose & should be shut down & condemned & none of the staff are fit to be in any medical profession, let alone run any medical facility.
Thank you very much for the wonderful series of lectures. I genuinely learned a great deal from them. The content was excellent, clear, and clinically oriented. The structure of the lectures was well-executed and time allotted for questions and answers.
