Ranelagh Medical have looked after me and my two children for nearly 15 years. The care is fantastic, future blood testscare booked 6 months in advance, emails are answered immediately, Dr Justin Smyth and all the nursing staff and staff are promt and thorough. They are booked solid and have to run perfectly to time, otherwise they wouldn't see scheduled appointments in a very high demand area where they are now the main GP clinic. However they also offer all nursing services, couselling and psychiatric services. With the pressure that GPs are under in Ireland today, I would suggest that Ranelagh Medical are onecif the most efficient and dilligent in the city.
I have nothing but good things to say about the team in Ranelagh Medical Centre. Dr Mangan, has in particular, been such a great doctor. So thorough and caring.
I was registered with this clinic for 3 years and never truly felt confident in the care provided. Every appointment, I saw a different doctor, many of whom appeared inexperienced and unsure in their diagnoses.
For example, during my six-week postpartum check after my first pregnancy, I told the doctor that something felt wrong. He didn’t examine me or take any action to refer me to a gynecologist. Later, through a private physiotherapy clinic, I was diagnosed with a prolapse, something that should have been identified if I was heard by the GP.
At my last visit, I brought my 3-month-old baby due to concerns about her breathing. I was asked to undress her on my lap, without being offered an examination table, while she cried heavily and yet the doctor still attempted to listen to her lungs, which was clearly ineffective.
The consultation felt rushed, no more than 5 minutes, hygiene standards were extremely poor (no handwashing, no gloves, no hand sanitizer — nothing), and the way the doctor placed a wooden spatula in my baby’s mouth almost made me cry right there in the room (the same thing had happened before with my older child).
There was no real concern shown for the patient. I emailed the clinic afterward about my experience and never received a response.
I absolutely do not recommend this clinic.
Just saw some of the reviews and u think they are describing a different practise than I go to. I have been a patient here for quite a number of years and have always found all the staff professional, highly competent and efficient. My normal GP is Dr Gallagher, but in occasion I have seen other doctors when she was not available. I have never had any issues with any of them, or the doctors or receptionists when at the practise, or when on the phone.
Second visit to two different doctors here this week. I had to return as I had no improvement in my sickness to be told I’d something much more serious than I had originally been told. Plus I felt like I was speed dating. It was rushed even though I’d been kept waiting and little to zero empathy shown from the doctor. Then they wanted to charge me another €70 for the second time in 5 days for a follow on visit that I had to make because they didn’t get it right the first time! I feel the care here has really slipped in recent months. Definitely doesn’t feel like it’s about you. There is also a sign on the door saying you can only speak about 2 issues for patient safety. Hmmm what a laugh surely that’s against patient safety! I’ll be looking for a new GP.
I have been with this practice for a few years with largely negative experiences. They switch their doctors regularly without notifying you that the doctor you've been seeing has left the practice. It's very frustrating.
A few months ago I was called in for an appointment about "test results", but I had not undergone any tests. I took time off work and the morning of the appointment they cancelled and rescheduled me with 10 minutes' notice. I ended up taking time off work 3 times for this appointment. The third time I checked in and waited to see this doctor, who I had only ever seen once before when he explained in great detail a prescription he was writing me only to go to the pharmacy and be given none of the things he told me he was prescribing me, only to return to the practice to have the receptionist talk down to me and tell me that I'm wrong. Bearing in mind that the entire time I was waiting for that appointment, there were people coming in to complain about wrong prescriptions from this same doctor.
I digress. So he called me back in and I waited.. for 2 hours. He came out, made eye contact with me, and then called every other patient in. I went to reception to ask why this was happening, the receptionists both audibly complained that he had already done this twice that same day, and then they told me to wait and they would contact him directly and get him to see me... He ignored them and kept ignoring me. They asked me to reschedule a 4th time for this appointment I never asked for and I refused.
I wrote an email to them complaining about this and asking to be informed as to why I was being called in to begin with. No response. Months later.
I no longer feel comfortable attending this practice as a result of these events and I'm still very much insulted by the disrespect I was shown by the staff and particularly Dr. Peer.
My son attended Dr Declan & his wonderful team of Caroline & Catherine between Jan & July this year. The pictures speak for themselves. He is so happy with his dental & aesthetic transformation after years of avoiding dentists due to bad experiences. Declan was so considerate, professional & always available for any concerns. Douze points, Declan! Thank you.
I was attended to by Doctor William Mangan at the clinic. He rushed the visit and was very dismissive of everything I had to say, barely looking at me and just compulsively typing on the keyboard. He was not empathetic when delivering some bad news. When I showed him some blood tests and a diagnosis from a renowned cardiologist, he didn’t even want to look at the exams because they were not carried out in Ireland. He weighed me with all my shoes and heavy clothes on. I really hope he didn’t prescribe me medicine based on the weight he recorded. I will never go back to him
