I would really recommend Bodyworks. I had a brilliant hot stone massage by Kasia, who advised that because I had a lot of tension she would do a mix of deep tissue massage alongside the hot stone massage. This was ideal as the warmth of the hot stones was relaxing, but was combined with some much needed tension release.
I had some questions in advance of my treatment too, that were promptly responded to by the team. I really liked the treatment room that the massage took place in too, it was very calming. I will be back!
Highly recommend Bodyworks Edinburgh! I am a delivery driver with severe lower back pain and I am also DEAF. The communication via email and in the clinic was fantastic and very accessible. Laurie is an amazing physiotherapist—he listened to my problems and did a professional dry needling session which brought immediate relief. If you are a driver with back pain, this is the best place to go. Thank you so much!
I managed to get a dry needling appointment very rapidly and the service was fantastic and friendly. My therapist took the time to take my history, explained to me what to expect during the treatment and gave me great advice. I can already feel the benefits. I really recommend them. Thank you!
Originally booked here for MLD post op to find out on the first week post leg op that it’s not disability friendly - stairs. I love going to Helen though, she’s amazing, my husband and dad goes to see her too.
*knocking off a star because of the accessibility (especially if you have mobility challenges)
I booked a sports massage with Laurie and had a great experience! The appointment started with an assessment, then the massage, followed by some exercise recommendations. The session felt very custom to my needs and I walked away feeling like my muscles got the deep attention they needed. Laurie is attentive and passionate about his work and it shows by all the details and nuances he notices. If you are looking for a thorough session where someone can finally get deep into the muscle and you can endure high amounts of pressure (as needed), I would recommend Laurie!
Struggling with muscle pain for a few months and doctor confirmed 3-4mth waiting list on NHS. Work colleague recommended Bodyworks. Had my 1st session today with Helen. Session was excellent and Helen identified the areas causing the pain. Felt so much better and was given advice on exercise and aftercare. Already booked next session-can highly recommend.
I'm writing this review because I'm so frustrated I can't sleep and I know I can only settle it by doing something.
And because of that I'm not feeling super discursive right now, but let it be known for the record before I get into the bad that I am pretty much never an easy case and there are things that went right and helped me during my visit.
But now for the kicker. One of the issues I visited the physio here for circa 2 months ago was a forearm issue that I've had on and off since 2017/18. It has always resolved within a few days of rest for daily activities, even if it reared its head again next time I hit the gym. There were often times where it never gave any issues. I aggravated it and decided I had had enough, I was worried it was stress fractures and secondarily had concerns about tendonitis. It was a day after a gym session that I attended and my right arm was hurting worse than the left but significantly reduced from the day of excercise.
Diagnostic primarily consisted of notably forceful pain inducing palpation on the point where I felt the most pain. Other tests were certainly done, and I was guarded about my neck too which may have limited some options. But the palpation was done 3 seperate times, presumably due to uncertainty, and the final time was particularly forceful (which even annoyed me at the time but I thought I was safe so I was chill). And each time the pressure was held and maintained even while we were just talking sometimes. And it obviously hurt quite a lot, I was wincing and flinching, though I'm not a pain rookie and have high tolerance so I guess maybe I didn't flinch enough.
Because the day after was severe. The physio said it would be bad it was awful. Impossible to ignore at rest, and god forbid I drive or pick up my water bottle or type on my phone for a while. The worst it has ever been outside of training by far, and dull and widespread and constant. And for context the worst it has been in training was back in 2018 where I had to wait 30 seconds to shake my shoulders to pry the curl bar from my own hands which wouldn't move. Yeah ikr dumb kid, he looked great tho. But that was back then, and in the last 7 years it has never been even nearly as bad as the day after my appointment.
Anyway it improved but it took me days to feel confident driving. That was fine with me though, because I felt I had traded it for confidence in my condition. I had received, at the very least, a tentative diagnosis of tendonitis. But as the days turned into weeks and weeks now to months the pain has never gone away like it usually does. It sits at a 1 or 2 at rest but flares every single time I use my hand. That can be small or big.
My kids want carried, I'm moving house, I'm starting a new business with vehicles and I can't rely on my dang right hand hand.
I decided to talk to an other physio as I became suspect about the whole situation and I had something acting up with an other injury (L5S1 bulge disc).
That guy did some oragami thing with my arm that stretched specifically the suspected region and from that stretch he told me what he thought it was, no prodding no pain increase. He says it's an issue with my Ulna nerve, he's not sure exactly what. But as soon as I felt that region light up the way it did I was convinced.
Its also got to be said that this other physio had more information due to my intimate recquaintance with the extremes of the issue in recent times, but I was also probably less compliant because I was nervous.
Does it mean I don't have tendonitis? No. But when the physio pulled up an anatomical map and showed me the path of the Ulna nerve, I got a blood rush to my face because I knew right at that moment that when the first physio thought he was forcefully compressing my tendon he was actually forcefully compressing my nerve. Which was already injured.
And I'm livid. But I'm not even livid at them. Humans are human. It just feels unfair though, and I feel like my trust is damaged as much as my arm. Cursing life for this. But now I feel I can sleep.
I was visiting Edinburgh and needed lymphatic drainage massage because I have breast cancer related lymphedema. Received the best treatment here with Helen. I highly recommend her. If I am back in Edinburgh I will definitely come see her again.
