My experience with Dr. Vasili Karas and his staff was excellent! His staff was pleasant and very helpful. Dr Karas was kind and very knowledgeable answering all my questions. I had both knees done six months apart by Dr Karas and both surgeries went great. I love the connection they keep through calls and messages sent giving information on the process of the recovery with praise and encouragement. I never felt any questions or concerns wouldn’t be answered quickly. I am a new person and so glad I had the surgeries.
I would highly recommend Dr. Kara’s and his staff.

From my first visit with Doctor Karas, I was shown great respect, All my questions were answered. My scheduled appointment was on time and was not rushed. The gentleness of Dr.Karas put my heart And nerves at ease .Dr.Karas honesty With me put me on A healthy path which I feel saved me from other potential health issues. The process was definitely step-by-step. Nothing rushed carefully thought out and planned. I’m grateful that I have found Doctor Karas .
I can't say enough good things about Dr. Karas and his team. I know Midwest Orthopedics at Rush is very well regarded and they exceeded the high bar I expected. I found out after having some pain in my hip along with a limp that I had developmental hip dysplasia (since birth). They had one look at me, my limited range of motion and my xray and we looked at schedules quickly. With an overseas trip planned, I wanted to get this taken care of. I was scheduled at the Lincoln Park location, which I loved. Not busy at all like the downtown hospital and a very skilled and lovely staff. Dr. Karas and team go to great lengths to try to explain what to expect, what you need to do, and how to prepare. You receive a booklet with lots of pre and post surgery detail, attend a live meeting where you can ask questions, have a video to reference, and can call their office anytime. They schedule all the doctor appointments needed ahead of surgery (to clear you), make it easy to order the medicine you need post surgery (provide it to you the day of surgery at hospital, so no extra pharmacy trip needed). I know outcomes vary by many factors and situations, but mine were outstanding. 6 weeks out, I am still healing for sure and working to strengthen my right leg, but my PT says I was 'weeks' ahead of other similar patients. I never needed a walker, cane or crutches. I did 8 weeks of PT ahead of the surgery and know that helped, but I also think the skill and method of Dr Karas played a big role. I did not need any of the narcotic level pain relievers after I came home (day of surgery). Throughout, they send helpful text messages with reminders and even some motivating words. I feel most grateful that advances in medicine exist like this, if I had to live with the pain I had before it would have really affected my life and well being. Thank you to the full team, I am really happy and grateful.
As I live the post surgery experience I am taking this opportunity to express my gratitude to Dr Vasili Karas and his team for their professionalism and the continued support they invested in me.
I do remember reading that the January 20th- the day before my surgery- that it would be the last day of pain!
I am looking forward to seeing all of you on my next appointment and take all assurances of wellness for the future.

After more than seven years of seeking orthopedic care and consulting with several highly regarded orthopedic specialists across the United States, I can honestly say that my experience with Dr. Karas and his team has been exceptional.
From my very first appointment, I felt heard. Many physicians focused on my age and encouraged me to wait before considering surgery. Dr. Karas took a different approach. He listened to what mattered to me. He understood my desire to remain active, improve my fitness, return to hiking, and continue exploring the country and the world with my husband. He treated me as a person with goals and dreams, not just as a patient with knee pain.
The care I received extended far beyond the surgery itself. I was incredibly impressed by the entire team. Everyone was kind, compassionate, responsive, and genuinely invested in my success. The preparation process was outstanding. I received detailed educational materials in both print and electronic formats, making it easy to understand exactly what to expect before, during, and after surgery. I always felt like I had access to the care team when I needed guidance or reassurance.
One of the things that surprised me most was the daily text messages I received throughout my recovery. They provided encouragement, reminders, and practical guidance at exactly the right moments. It may seem like a small thing, but during recovery it made a tremendous difference and helped me feel supported every step of the way.
The outcome has been so positive that I have now scheduled my second knee replacement with Dr. Karas. There is no stronger endorsement I can give than trusting him and his team to do it all over again.
As I write this review, I find myself getting emotional because this experience has given me back something I was afraid I was losing the ability to live the active life I love. I am deeply grateful to Dr. Karas and every member of his team for their expertise, compassion, preparation, encouragement, and care.
If you are considering knee replacement surgery, I would recommend Dr. Karas without hesitation.
I can now attest to Dr. Karas’s well-earned reputation for excellence. In our pre-surgery meeting Dr Karas came in knowing the particulars of my knee condition, was approachable and attentive, and answered all my questions - about the surgery and the subsequent rehab. Midwest Ortho at Rush runs a punctual and professional practice and Dr Karas’s own staff is courteous and always responsive. Rehab has gone very well, with the initial therapist they arranged to come to my home and with texts from Dr K’s practice reminding me to work hard during the 6 weeks of outpatient PT to get maximum recovery. Thank you Dr Karas, I start golfing tomorrow!

Extremely impressed with this practice! From initial contact to post surgery follow-up, everything went incredibly smoothly - they definitely have a well oiled machine when it comes to seeing patients. Yet I felt very much cared for as an individual. Everybody I came into contact with was extremely knowledgeable and able to promptly and efficiently address all of my questions. And the fact that my knee replacements were outpatient procedures was incredible. Highly recommend Dr. Karas and all of the staff at both his office and the Lincoln Park surgery center.
