Across the 35 clinics we list under Dermatology in New York, the average rating is 4.6. This one is at 4.5, which is the middle of that field rather than either end of it. It is less documented than most, though — 985 reviews, where the local average is 1,325. A rating on fewer visits is a less settled one.

I chose The Dermatology Specialists - Hell's Kitchen because they had an earlier appointment available than Advanced Dermatology. While the treatment itself was completed, my experience with pricing, billing transparency, customer service, and payment practices was disappointing.
According to my insurance Explanation of Benefits, The Dermatology Specialists - Hell's Kitchen billed $300 for a standard office visit, compared with $138.22 billed by Advanced Dermatology for a similar visit. They also billed $300 for CPT 17110 and an additional $100 for CPT 11056, which my insurance did not cover, leaving me responsible for $100 plus a $15 copay.
What surprised me most was the $100 charge for CPT 11056 (corn and callus trimming). After reviewing the billing code and researching the procedure, I learned it is generally a routine treatment involving removal of thickened dead skin tissue. I understand that medical pricing varies between providers, but I was surprised that this service generated the largest out-of-pocket charge of the visit.
The billing process was equally frustrating. On May 21, I received an automated email stating that my card on file would be charged the following day. I immediately contacted the billing department to discuss the charge, but had difficulty obtaining basic claim information and was repeatedly redirected between departments. When I finally reached the local office, I was told the pending charge could not be paused.
At this point, this is no longer about the money—the balance has already been paid. I am sharing my experience because I believe prospective patients should understand the pricing, billing, and automatic payment practices before making an appointment. Had I known these costs and billing procedures in advance, I likely would have waited for an appointment elsewhere.
Based on my overall experience, I cannot recommend The Dermatology Specialists - Hell's Kitchen. The medical care was completed, but the combination of significantly higher charges, lack of billing transparency, difficulty obtaining assistance, and short-notice automatic billing practices outweighed the convenience of getting an earlier appointment.
If you choose this practice, I strongly recommend requesting detailed pricing estimates in advance and carefully reviewing payment and billing policies before receiving treatment.
I gave this dermatology office several chances because it is conveniently located near my building. The doctor is just fine, but unfortunately, the office itself is poorly run and the patient experience has been consistently frustrating.
The first time I visited, things already felt disorganized. On my second visit, I was incorrectly told I needed a referral. I questioned it, but they still sent me away. After spending the day getting the referral, I was then told I never needed one in the first place.
Another time, my prescription was sent to a pharmacy that was no longer convenient for me. When I asked for it to be sent somewhere else, I was told I might have to pay just to have the prescription resent or to speak with the doctor. After a long wait, the doctor eventually came out and handled it, but the whole situation was unnecessary and poorly managed.
My last visit was enough for me. I was told I had to put a credit card on file or leave a large deposit to be seen, even though I pay my copay in cash. I told them they were denying me care because I did not have a credit card and would not leave a large deposit, and they simply did not seem to care. I was also told the remaining balance would stay with the office for a future visit. For someone who may only come once or twice a year, I find that unreasonable. Why should a medical office keep my money just in case I come back?
On top of that, they are very pushy about getting patients to write Google reviews. I was bombarded with texts about leaving a review, and the same thing happened with the capsule/pharmacy service they promote. It becomes annoying and feels less like patient care and more like they are constantly trying to get something else from you.
On top of the mistakes, the attitude is what makes the experience worse. The staff come across as rude, dismissive, and completely unconcerned with wasting patients’ time or giving patients inaccurate information.
I will not be returning, and I would not recommend this office.
The first time I made an appointment to the dermatology specialists, I made an appointment online, got a confirmation and showed up at the office finding out it was closed. Other people were showing up with the same exact issue. That problem, resolved itself, I had another issue so I made an appointment, received confirmation again and then at the last minute, got a phone call saying that my appointment was canceled because they already booked their schedule. This is despite me making the appointment a week ago and getting multiple confirmations. They may be wonderful, but I’ll never find out.
This company is horrible and misleads you into appts. This is the 3rd time I go for a scheduled appt and there is no doctor there and they want you to see a PA(appt was made specifically for the doctor) Today i decided to see the PA then after i am undressed they tell me they can't do my screening as they don't have a piece of equipment needed(a scope to look at skin) but that i could see the PA for my other issue but i would have to make and pay for another appt. There website is completely misleading. They show doctors schedules for appts but those doctors don't even work at this location. Guess they do it just to get you in the door. 2 appt's ago the doctor i had my appt with no longer even worked for the company they confirmed my appt with that doctor and they didn't say anything until i got there. I have also had billing issues with this company, billing me for a co-pay when my appt was paid 100% out of pocket for tag removal. 1 of the employees said they know about the misleading on line appts and were trying to fix it. This has been going on for a year now. take it down if you can't fix it....
Very disappointing experience.
The male receptionist had zero respect for patient privacy. He was loudly asking people across the waiting room why they were visiting the doctor and discussing insurance details about other patients where everyone could hear. I even asked if he could raise the TV volume or put on some music so people wouldn’t have to hear others’ personal information, but he completely ignored it and continued the same behavior.
I waited 50 minutes to be seen, with ann an appointment, and a patient who arrived 15 minutes late to her appointment time was taken before me.
When I brought up my concerns to the doctor’s assistant about the clear HIPAA/privacy issues of asking patients personal medical questions across the room, her response was basically that I should have just told him I didn’t want to answer. It’s not the patient’s job to train staff on basic confidentiality and professionalism.
She also didn’t offer to involve a manager, even after I asked who the manager was.
This place feels like a circus and seriously lacks professionalism and clinical awareness. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I’ve experienced issues here. Overall a very poor experience. This is the most convenient location to where I live and I will continue to go here, hope that in my return they get their act right or it will really affect their customer flow when I start recording their acts and posting proof of everything I’m discussing. Which by the way I have concrete proof to all I have pointed out here. It’s simple, please treat patients with class or reconsider your job…
I used to like this place, but I've had it at this point. It is truly a revolving door of practitioners. I've had 2 instances (and now 3) where it's time for my prescription to refill, the pharmacy tries to contact the provider, and no response. Low and behold the lack of response is due to the providers leaving the practice and me having no clue. I'm out of medication - I make an appt in person (soley for refills) only to show up and them tell me they have me down for a different time slot than the one I was communicated on the phone, and they couldn't see me that day. I then took a telehealth appt the next day and saw a new doctor who said they would send over some refills. It 'failed' to go through 3x now, and I've been off the medication for a week due to this, and am going to have to entirely start over. I've called every single day for a week with no resolution. I talk to someone new every time and each subsequent time the person is confused about the action that the last one took to resolve.
Updating my review. After posting some negative comments about a missing prescription here, I was given the office manager's direct email, at which point the issue was resolved. While I'm not thrilled at having waited 10 days for my prescription to be issued (it is hopefully on it's way now), they did their best to rectify the mistake - which is all anyone can ask for. In the future, I will not leave the office until I see a text confirming the doctor's prescription orders - and I recommend others do the same, as the office can be very hard to reach once you leave. Many thanks to the folks who helped - much appreciated.
Avoid this place. Total corporate nightmare.
I don't usually write long reviews, but I’ve had it with Dermatology Specialists. This isn't a doctor’s office; it’s a disorganized billing mill that treats patients like numbers.
The "Care" is Non-Existent. The biggest red flag is you never see the same doctor twice. There is a constant revolving door of providers, which means zero consistency. Every time I go, I’m starting from scratch with someone new who doesn't know my history. To make matters worse, they are constantly running late. Expect to sit in the waiting room way past your appointment time every single visit.
Trying to call them is infuriating. They use an AI to impersonate a real person on the phone without even telling you and makes getting a straight answer impossible. If you try to use their "Contact Us" form or get through to a person and ask to speak to a manger…Good luck. I’ve reached out multiple times and left voicemails for management, and I’ve been completely ghosted.
Billing is mostly outsourced, and the people you finally get on the phone have no idea what’s actually happening in the office. They’re not able to provide an itemized receipt and when I finally got through to the real billing team, they sent me a generic slip with no details on it. I tried over and over to follow up to have this resolved, and never heard back. It’s nearly impossible to get a real person to fix anything.
They’ve automated and outsourced everything to the point where they’ve lost any shred of actual patient care. It’s a horrible experience. Save yourself the frustration and go literally anywhere else.
