My wife and I visited John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County for the first two appointments of our pregnancy journey with our first child, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the experience we had.
From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly professional, compassionate, and attentive. They took the time to answer our questions, address our concerns, and made us feel comfortable and reassured during such an important chapter in our lives. The care and kindness shown to my wife gave us great confidence that both she and our baby were in excellent hands.
Pregnancy can be an emotional and exciting experience, especially when it’s your first child, and the team at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County helped make those first visits a positive and memorable one.
We truly appreciate the outstanding care we received and highly recommend this hospital to any expecting parents or anyone seeking quality healthcare. Thank you to everyone who made our experience so wonderful!
I have been to many hospitals due to being disabled. I was triaged by excellent staff not limited to Carolyn Vazquez,Regina Bedell,Alex Argueta,Linda James they worked as a team and was provided with excellent care that other hospitals would love to have.They had me turned around and not only medicated but a refill where others couldn't due. They were a eraser for care providers mistakes. They should be recognized as such excellent employees
In less than a decade Stroger Cook County Hospital's campus and the ENTIRE Illinois Medical District has become unrecognizable. The old Cook County Hospital's quaint limestone exterior now contains a ultramodern hotel. And there's a new professional building on Stroger's campus.
Other medical facilities in the IMD have major new hospitals and facilities. Rush still rules the avant-garde, quirky architecture visible from the Eisenhower expressway with its new MD Anderson Cancer Center. The LightHouse for the Blind has a new high rise private residence building. And that's just one of dozens of new buildings with probably 1000s of new residences throughout the District that I saw driving by.
University of Illinois Hospital, Medical Schools and facilities have major new additions. These include an expanded outpatient pharmacy presence and a new outpatient clinic building. Something else is being added to the UI campus but I don't know what it is. All I know that construction workers were diligently trying to remove 2 foot deep blocks of concrete from beneath the street at the intersection of Taylor and Woods, nearby where the old ball field used to be.
Awesome architectural progress is STILL happening in Chicago in 2026.
Over the past six weeks I have taken my neighbor to the emergency room to clinic appointments. She’s had surgery and her other clinic appointment today. I have nothing but good things to say about this Hospital. The staff is so friendly. They go out their way to ask if you’re OK do you need directions? I have never experienced this anywhere. I’ve been before to this extent I did not think my experience. Would be anything close to this.. it is a teaching hospital, but whatever the reason if you can, Call, if you can qualify to go, please don’t hesitate. Don’t be afraid the doctors and surgeons are top notch. The cafeteria was OK there is a Jimmy John’s, Starbucks, and Chick-fil-A across the street. They even have heaters in the overhang when you first coming up to the hospital it was cold and snow on the first day when we first came and the heaters would greatly appreciated
Stroger is one of the Best Best hospital I go to. You’re treated very kindly and with utmost respect. The staffs that are there is Amazing! They would go out of their way to accommodate you. And no questions you ask is not above and beyond. Because the care they give you is above and beyond! I would recommend this hospital for everyone to go to. Everyone and everybody is welcomed.
Went in the ER because I wasn't feeling well. Waited 4 hours to be treated, but when I tell you they had the best medical attitude. The wait was worth it. I was checked for every possible thing. I'm now under care for my situation. The nurses was good but the ER doctors were fantastic. Payed attention to all my concerns. Now my bill is outrageous but my health is worth it.
Hands down worst hospital I have ever been to. Staff is very uneducated! How are you an RN setting supplies on the top of the garbage can and think you’re going to use them umm ma’am I think not! Everyone seems mad to be at work too. It’s veryyyy dirty! You will wait forever n get a prescription for Tylenol. My tooth broke and they gave me Tylenol like their whole career and the schools attended can be thrown in the garbage. Maybe if they were not so busy laughing and giggling at the nurses station they would be more knowledgeable. I will NEVER be back and spread the word this is not the care, lack of, anyone deserves. Don’t waste your time. If I hear someone say they work there it will discredit them and the school they attended!
Update: now today I stop here to allow my mother with Dementia to use the bathroom they refuse her a toilet. I parked in the 10min parking so she would not have an accident being the restroom is directly inside the door behind the desk and an officer said I cannot park there or I will be ticketed and towed. I told him I will be done before ten minutes limit and all spaces were empty. He said to park behind the police car and put my flashers on so way less safe of an option but ok I did as I was not asking for a ticket. I was told she is not allowed to use a toilet! I hate I even had to come back and was in passing when her need occurred. This hospital is worse than I thought it is truly inhumane. I had to make a big crazy deal just to use a toilet!
I gave 2 stars because the team I see in 1D is amazing. But after my surgery I was put on the baby/newborn unit. My nurses were princess, Darlene, and Emily. Even though Emily was stuck up, she still did her job. And the lady she was training was kind and passionate. Princess completely neglected me when I asked for pain meds, and said my shift is over in an hour. I told her I was going to vomit from the anesthesia and she turned on a suction, handed it to me, and left out the room. My mouth was wired shut.. I had no idea what I was doing. Darlene came on after princess and I asked her to please give pain meds and she said okay and didn’t come back. I continued to ask her for pain meds and I didn’t find out that orders were not put in until the resident on call came upstairs around 1 am to check on me and she told him this. Super disappointed. Princess or Darlene also did not start my antibiotics right when placed on their floor. So when Darlene went to start liquids, the site hurt and I had to get stuck again. The IV lady came in and was about to poke me with a needle I didn’t even see her open. I told her no and demanded she open a fresh needle in front of me! I did not know what to expect after DJS so my expectations were not high but I do know that these nurses mistreated me and neglected me. This is the worst hospital ever and besides 1D I would never trust them with my care. The nurses sit out all night on the baby ward and gossip. Thumbs down
