I was promptly checked in, and within about 15 minutes, I was called in to an exam room. I first met Narisha (Medical Scribe), who was kind and attentive in taking my vitals. She was also patient with me, as I had to look up some medical notes on my Google Drive app. Post-vitals, I met Dr. Kwiatkowski. FYI/TMI: I am no longer connected to my family’s medical network, so I’m usually terrified before meeting a new physician in NYC, especially as I’m from a demographic that is often treated disrespectfully/horribly in the medical arena. When Dr. Kwiatkowski knocked on the door and got the green light to step into the room, he smiled, greeted me with direct eye contact (an underrated green flag), and complimented me on my glasses. I smiled, greeted him back and complimented him on his! (Important Note: I’ve been a massive fan of stylish eyewear since my high school years, so we’re talking the 1990s. Therefore, when I meet an eyewear aficionado, I do not hesitate to offer a compliment.) Shortly thereafter, the doctor and I talked about my past and present abscesses, and then he got to work. I appreciated that before the procedure, Dr. Kwiatkowski calmed my nerves. When I got the first abscess drained last summer in my home state at another Urgent Care location, it was the w-o-r-s-t pain I’ve ever experienced during a medical visit in my adult life. It was traumatizing. So, I was expecting the absolute worst on this visit. Dr. Kwiatkowski assured me that all would be well, and he’d relay what he was doing every step of the way. At the end of the procedure, I was surprised that I wasn’t yelling or crying, as I was last year at the aforementioned Urgent Care location. I was relieved and happy! I took one of the prescribed pills he presented (I had to pick up the Rx the following day), then, being my autistic self, I asked the doctor questions about abscesses and offered my backstory. (Side Note: You know a doctor is intelligent when they’re able to take a complex subject and break it down in a simple plus humorous manner.) Both Dr. Kwiatkowski and Narisha wished me well, and I left with a smile on my face. I came back two days later and had a great experience during the follow-up visit. I didn’t get the name of the kind woman who took my vitals, but I did meet Robin and Jeff Chao (PA), who were kind. PA Chao removed the packing from my wound, gave aftercare instructions and provided dressing for said wound. Came here for rhabdo. Discharged without any paper work. Had to call and only then I was told I was supposed to get it. Went back and got the paper from the front desk but was not explicitly told I need to go to ER. Luckily I read the paper 8HRS later and went to ER immediately. Point is, I should have been told to go to ER the first time BEFORE I left. I even asked several times what the next step is and if I should do anything and was repeatedly told no.
