The cataract surgery delivered amazing results. Vision like I'm 30 again. Both the pre-surgery care and post-op care were excellent. But they could improve two things in their business operation.
1. They pump patients through the system at a truly impressive pace, I'm sure this is to maximize revenue, but the office environment is so busy that one feels like one is just a cheque waiting to be cashed. Check in is automated although there are receptionists behind the counter. It is the same at the surgery center.
2. Their "Surgery Counselor" massively overcharged me with an up-front payment of over $2400 for each eye even though my insurance told me I was only responsible for a $200 co-pay each. When I pointed this out, I was told they need complete payment before surgeries. No money, no fixy. So, the result is that their billing department will not refund me until they receive payment and EOB's from my insurance company. Basically, they received a $4500 loan from me for an indefinite period. This seems unethical to me as they knew in advance what insurance would cover and what I needed to cover.
I showed up to my 1:15 appointment at 1:05 and after I checked in I waited until around 1:22 for the desk girl to call me up to get my insurance information. I had trouble pulling it up and the woman showed no patients what so ever. She continued to rush me and threatened to cancel my appointment if I don’t pull it up fast enough to her liking. She continued to say “we are past our 10 minute grace period” so she cancelled my appointment!!! And 15 seconds later I was able to get it out and she refused to look at it or take it. If you only give a 10 minute grace period don’t you think people need more than 3 minutes to get their information out?? It’s just ridiculous! After reading the rest of the reviews and people waiting an hour to an hour and a half makes the situation even more stupid. And while I was attempting to gather all that they made an elderly lady wait there 30 minutes unit they told her she’s past her appointment time because she couldn’t hear her name being called. You would think they would give more grace considering elderly people are most of their clientele. JUST DO BETTER!
Everything went fine. I was especially pleased to receive my prescription without extra cost. (I have paid over $50 in the past.)
I never could understand why the patient was charged extra in order to receive the prescription. Why have the exam if you don't receive the prescription??!
They are an awesome company. Their employees are also so nice. Unfortunately the clinician that was putting the eye drops in my eye for dilation. Put way too much in my eye did not like it at all. I went outside absolutely almost could not see. Luckily I had a ride the next day. I had a stye was getting styes in both eyes so I don’t know what happened but
I’m not sure how many confirmation reminders I get for this one appointment but it’s via email and it’s via text and it’s over and over and over. Then when you get to the appointment, You sit and wait! My appt was first thing in the morning, and they were already behind! I purposely scheduled first thing in the morning so that I can get back to my job and not miss too much time. This appt was a regular appt but took over 2 hours! They over schedule have people waiting everywhere. Not a quiet office at all! Then the eye doc comes in for 15 mins. And wraps up everything!! Not a fan of this office processes! Certainly needs fixing!!
So much better than going to a vision center where they are interested in only selling eyeglasses and I understand.
Going to Barnet Dulaney Perkins and their wonderful doctors (in my case Dr.Olivetti) who is really nice and very caring.
thoroughly examines your eyes and are NOT selling glasses - they are there to examine your eyes and do a really thorough job with all their modern equipment.
Yesterday , I felt like I really did get a good exam and I thank
Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center. Thanks.
I had to wait almost an hour to be seen. There must have been at least 20 elderly patients in that room. When my name was called I was directed to a room with an assistant who examined my vision and put drops in my eye's for dilatation. I then had pictures taken in another room with another assistant. Finally, I saw the Optometrist who examined my vision and told me to come back in a year, that took no more than 10 minutes What kind of review do you think they should get? I will say they were efficient once my name was called .
My first visit was very thorough. The office was very busy, but there was little to no wait. The help was efficient, and the doctor explained everything perfectly.
