I am absolutely disgusted by the treatment we received. We arrived at 8:30 pm after my 20-month-old son fell, hit his head, and suffered a cut that was bleeding quite heavily. By 10:30 pm, we were still waiting to be seen. When I asked at reception, I was told there were still another 12 people ahead of us.
I completely understand that emergencies must be prioritised and that there are patients with more serious conditions. However, making a 20-month-old child wait for hours after a head injury is simply unacceptable. My son was exhausted, distressed, and likely in pain.
This was an inhumane and deeply disappointing experience. No parent should have to watch their injured toddler suffer for hours without being assessed. I sincerely hope this hospital reviews how it manages waiting times for young children because this level of care is unacceptable.
The recent care I had from Specialist Nurse L Georgiou and from the radiography team was exemplary. They took my concerns seriously and were very thorough in their examination so that I was reassured. A brilliant example of the caring, professional NHS at its best. Well done and thank you all.
I recently visited Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) after midnight, and unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing.
The environment felt unprofessional, with some staff members speaking loudly, laughing, and creating unnecessary noise in clinical areas. This was particularly distressing for patients who were in pain and trying to rest. There were also instances where patient information appeared to be discussed openly, raising serious concerns about privacy and confidentiality.
More alarmingly, I witnessed a situation where a patient was left unattended for over 10 minutes with a blood pressure cuff still tightly wrapped around his arm, a pulse oximeter attached to his finger. The staff member had walked away and later returned casually, saying he were distracted by his friend. This raises serious concerns about patient safety and basic duty of care. Leaving a patient unattended in such a condition is not only unprofessional but could pose risks to the patient’s comfort, wellbeing, and potentially their health.
When we approached staff for assistance, the communication at times felt abrupt and lacking empathy, which added to an already stressful situation. Overall, the level of professionalism fell significantly below what one would expect from an NHS hospital.
However, I would like to recognise two individuals who stood out positively. The gentleman at reception was polite, calm, and very helpful. In addition, the lady taking blood near reception was kind, professional, and clearly understood how to communicate with patients in discomfort. Their conduct reflected the standard of care patients should receive.
I strongly urge management to take this feedback seriously, review staff conduct, and reinforce standards around patient care, attentiveness, and professionalism—especially during night shifts. Patients’ dignity, safety, and comfort must always come first.
A truly special maternity ward at PRU - I was really grateful to have my baby at the Oasis Birthing Centre then stayed one night in the labour ward. Every staff member is so truly kind and out of this world. Thank you for a magical experience I’ll never forget. You are super-humans providing such an incredible level of care in such hot weather conditions!
Fantastic service at the Pruh as always, been here twice in two weeks and whilst I have been here for two hours that is nothing compared to most hospitals, the staff are great special mention to the team in A&E that worked on 14th July night shift. It’s not always easy work but they do it with style and grace
Amazing for me for Csection in 2019. (Baby unit also treated for an infection when a few weeks old). Had my gall bladder taken out there, again great care. My daughter has been seen by the allergy team (who were all angels especially Katie.. absolute hero gem of a woman! So kind and above and beyond kind hearted and warm bunch of people. Dr Walter’s is also incredible!!! Such a kind and empathetic man we owe you so much) and now Respiratory Care Team are looking after my very elderly grandfather. Thank you. You are all so kind from cleaning staff to doctors and nurses. Everyone was so kind! Xxx Hugs and thank you xxxx
Excellent quality care at the PRUH, yet again. I had day surgery and from start to finish the whole team were kind, compassionate, reassuring, professional and even fun. The hospital was very clean and a calm environment. I was extremely well looked after and can’t thank the staff enough for their expertise and support. When they say their values are focused on kindness, it is very true.
Attended UCC/A&E today. Seen in Medical SDEC subsequently. Wanted to leave a review as it was a seamless, efficient process from start to finish. I work in the NHS and am fully aware of the problems but today as a patient it worked brilliantly for me. I am so grateful.
