I came in yesterday with chemical burns to my eye. They promptly took me in for treatment (washed my eyes, tested pH, all the works, etc) and I was in and out within a couple hours! Absolutely amazingly considerate staff with high levels of professionalism! Highly recommend
I walked into the hospital on 6 July at 6:30 PM because my friend had hurt his eye while playing badminton. I’m writing this at 2:10 AM and, after more than eight hours, he still hasn’t been seen by a doctor.
Honestly, I’m struggling to understand how this is acceptable. When we asked for an update, we were told there were six patients ahead of us and that it could be another 3–4 hours.
What is actually going on? Are they critically understaffed? Is the department overwhelmed? Is there only one doctor on shift? Waiting more than eight hours for someone with an eye injury to even be assessed feels ridiculous.
I cannot speak highly enough of the service I have received from this hospital. All the staff I have encountered have done their jobs with outstanding professionalism, from porter or receptionist to doctor, nurse, or surgeon. I give my thanks to each and every one of them.
Waiting times in A&E are — like in every other Hospital — longer than one would ideally like, but one has to be realistic about expectations from busy medical facilities, in a city of some 9 million people, hundreds of whom may require care at any one time, operating in a long-since underfunded health service.
Initial results from my emergency eye surgery — carried out with great care and courtesy — are promising, although the full effect will not be completely apparent for some time.
I have been coming here since 2014 for Keratoconus in both eyes. In all the years I have been coming here, the doctors, nurses, pharmacists, optometrists, contact lens specialists, receptionists, and surgeons have been so helpful.
I had crosslinking done in 2020, which stopped the progression of Keratoconus in both of them, as intended. It also improved the vision in my left eye, which was a bonus.
As the right eye was worse, I had the CAIRS procedure done on it in 2026, which has made some difference, and I am pleased with it.
Thank you for everything!
The retina department are outstanding. I am a patient under Prof. Pearse Keane who goes above and beyond for patient care. Similarly, Stefania Andrita, who is an excellent nurse, is amazing! Every appointment I have is seamless and always runs on time! Both of them really care about their patients and I couldn’t recommend them enough - thank you!
My local urgent care centre told me to call Moorfields ASAP with a serious eye infection owing to shingles. After waiting almost 3 hours for the callback, they told me I wasn't their problem as I lived just outside London. Suggested I went to the online consultation service, which is supposed to give you medical advice anyway. I tried this. Again I was told I was not their problem. She gave me a number to ring, which was another Moorfields number where I just got a recorded message telling me it was unmanned until Monday. No treatment, no advice. I was an inconvenience to be fobbed off as quickly as possible. Abysmal.
Our son, who is Autistic with ADHD, intellectual disability, and anxiety was seen today by Dr Ameenat Solebo (Lola) and Merve Aydemir at Moorfields, City Road, London. Considering our son hates change and really struggles ordinarily in unfamiliar settings and has diagnosed selective mutism, he was able to cope beyond any of our expectations. Their demeanour with him was incredible. Our son has been seeing specialists for his vision for over half his life, he has only ever been able to communicate by pointing at picture images, there are many of his school staff and professionals involved with his care who have never heard him speak. Today he was able to sound out letters and vocalise responses to Merve, who he's never met before. She didn't pressure him, she gently encouraged and praised him. We were able to get scans and pressure tests done as well as a full examination.
Thank you so much for the excellent level of care.
Very disappointing experience. Before attending Moorfields, I waited five hours at St Thomas’ Hospital after being told a specialist was available, only to find they did not have someone who could operate the necessary equipment. An online consultation then advised me to attend Moorfields due to symptoms and previous eye history.
I waited around six hours to be seen while in ongoing eye pain and significant light sensitivity.
The doctor did examine my eyes thoroughly and said she could not find anything clinically wrong, which I understand. However, her attitude felt distant, defensive, and dismissive. I was made to feel like an inconvenience rather than a patient in pain. When I asked for the lights to be turned on to check if the drops had helped, she rolled her eyes before doing so, despite the light being right next to her desk.
I also felt uncomfortable when a supporting staff member appeared to quietly prompt the doctor about something negative on my notes.
The doctor seemed to be more concerned about defending colleagues and managing workload than on my care. I was told it was likely dry eyes, and when I asked for clear guidance on whether steroid drops were appropriate, the decision felt pushed back onto me.
After seeing four professionals (GP, St Thomas’, Moorfields online consultation, and in person), I left feeling unsupported. With eye health, I expected a “better safe than sorry” approach. This experience fell far below what I expected from Moorfields.
I'm still in pain weeks later after taking steroid and dry eye drops for treatment..
