I recently spent time at Good Hope Hospital for an operation, and I cannot praise the care I received highly enough. From the moment I walked through the door to the moment I was discharged, everything was handled perfectly. Before my operation, the lady who looked after me went out of her way to make me feel extremely comfortable and at ease, which completely took away my nerves. A special mention must also go to the Rapid Response section and the fantastic team on Ward 14. Every single member of staff was incredibly professional and kind. Being operated on can be stressful, but they made me feel so well looked after. Everything was seamless from start to finish. Thank you all so much for your incredible care!

Hi was admitted on the 29th May to the AMU I’d just like say with deep ❤️ how well I was looked after from all the Staff. The cleaning team worked so hard and always made me laugh just at the right time. They were always kind and supportive to my wife Nyree too they were fantastic. The nurses were always working hard and patient and reassuring they were fantastic too. The Doctors were fantastic too and caring. So me and my wife just want to say a big thank you sending lots of love ❤️ Simon & Nyree 🤗🤗

A&E main entrance could use a little fine tuning . But once you are through at ward C you are intently looked after. There is a little shining light in their called Priya who is an asset to the hospital and an wonderful nurse. The doctors I have seen including the specialists are very sympathetic and incredibly knowledgeable. Fine tune the A&E entrance as it is chaotic , and praise the ward staff. I thought I would leave this review now as I'm nil by mouth for 4 days , I might be reduced to a tattoo on the bed . Ta

I want to say a massive thank you to Jamie on Ward 17. He is honestly one of the best nurses I’ve ever come across. Jamie is humble, kind, considerate, and just a genuinely lovely human being. He has a way of making people feel comfortable and respected, even when they’re going through a difficult time. He is always professional, but also easy to talk to, down to earth, and able to have a proper lad-to-lad chat, which has really helped me feel more relaxed while I’m still here receiving care. His communication is excellent. He listens properly, explains things clearly, and never makes anything feel rushed. You can tell he is sincere in the way he approaches his work and that he genuinely cares about the people he looks after. Without putting his personal business out there, it’s clear Jamie brings real experience, integrity, and honour to his role. He carries himself in a way that earns respect, and I genuinely admire him for that. Jamie is the complete package and exactly the kind of person you hope to meet when you’re in hospital. Ward 17 is lucky to have him. I’m still on the ward at the moment, but I wanted to make sure Jamie gets the recognition he deserves. Thank you for everything, Jamie. We need more people like you in the NHS. You're a legend. Keep up the great work, King. 🫡

I had a great but poor time at good hope hospital. Came through a&e with belly aches where the doctors felt unconcerned and a waste of time; 6 hours to be diagnosed with appendicitis. My time on ward 29 was pleasant and all the staff were great and filled with love. After being discharged, it took 3 hours waiting in a tiny room for my medication which I thought was strange, and should just give patients a slip to pick it up themselves from any pharmacy. I felt like a lot of the staff care truly about your health and try to do their best. But you can tell the hospital struggles with communication between departments due to not having enough staff. Could be great if they just had more money, and more polite patients.

I recently attended A&E on Tuesday evening and spent 10 hours waiting to be seen. The waiting room was packed full of poorly people so naturally the mood was low. The issue I have was with the lack of coordination from all of the night shift staff. None of them seem joined up in what was happening, there was zero empathy shown for the amount of time people were waiting. Whilst I understand there are staff shortages in the NHS, there are still ways to communicate and ensure people feel heard/seen. The staff were rude and spent a lot of time just shuffling around trying to look busy. There were several ‘’nurses’’ At the nurse station and they were sat playing games on their phones for hours! This antagonised everyone waiting! When the day shift came on at 7am, there was a complete shift in mood, coordination and general care. There was a complete shift for the better and this should not be the case- there should be consistency across all staff and care given. BIG SHOUT OUT to ‘Sam’ who was just fantastic. She helped me more in 15 mins than the prior 10 hours…. Unbelievable.

Respiratory Ward 24, where my disabled brother of age 78 next month has been looked after with the greatest of care, he has Been in for 28 with pneumonia and sepsis and is really struggling, but the nurses and doctors on the ward are lovely, don't know all their names but Micheal and Lucy, Caroline, Jackie, Kelly, Anne, Michelle but to name a few, have been very good and supportive with my brother, also I have spoken to on the phone to very lovely nurses and the 2 ladies that came to do his personal care were very gentle with my brother, his food has been nice, the side room he has been in is very clean and airy, they honestly can't do enough for my brother ! He's still really poorly but we're hoping he comes out soon. Thank you !

As a visitor to a family member on Ward 15, I was shocked by the attitude of some of the nursing staff. They came across as rude, dismissive, and completely lacking in empathy or compassion. The way they spoke to both visitors and patients was unprofessional at times and made an already incredibly difficult situation even more upsetting. I understand that nursing is a demanding profession and that staff work under immense pressure, but that is no excuse for treating people with disrespect. Families are often going through some of the hardest moments of their lives, and a little kindness and understanding can make a huge difference. Unfortunately, that was completely absent during my visits. The cleanliness of the ward was also extremely disappointing. It often looked dirty, and it didn’t appear to be cleaned to the standard you would expect in a hospital. In a place where hygiene should be one of the highest priorities, this was deeply concerning. From everything I witnessed, there seemed to be a complete lack of care, compassion, professionalism, and basic respect. Healthcare should be about helping people through some of the worst days of their lives, not making them feel like an inconvenience. Based on my experience, I genuinely couldn’t recommend this ward or this hospital to anyone. In fact, if I were seriously ill, I would rather avoid coming here altogether than risk experiencing the same lack of care and compassion that I witnessed. Patients and their families deserve to be treated with dignity, kindness, and respect, and sadly that was not my experience.
