I recently had carpal tunnel surgery at Merlin Park Hospital, and I can honestly say it was the best hospital experience I’ve ever had. From the moment I arrived, the admissions process was quick,
friendly, and reassuring. The staff on the day ward were exceptional — welcoming, professional, and clearly dedicated to their patients, and the ward itself was spotless and comfortable.
The operating theatre was surprisingly warm and comfortable, which helped me feel calm and at ease before my procedure. My surgeon and the entire surgical team were fantastic — kind, attentive, and thoroughly professional throughout. After the operation, a fresh coffee and some warm toast were waiting for me, which was a lovely touch and very much appreciated.
Overall, Merlin Park Hospital truly stands out for its caring staff, excellent facilities, and the genuine warmth of everyone I met. I couldn’t have asked for better care or a more positive experience.
Today I had any appointment with the Podiatry in unit 3. Wow the staff were excellent and there work. They gave me great advice on looking after my feet as I am a diabetic. So yes I would recommend unit 3 Merlin Park from paula
Aspects of care in the Merlin Park University Hospital, Galway were exceptional. Most of the staff are five star.
Unfortunately, I experienced a complete nightmare on the operating table during preparation for surgery, and feel that it is necessary to warn other women to demand that their dignity is respected at all times. Mine was not. I was totally violated.
I have been so traumatised by the ordeal that I was subjected to, I was unable to complain; HSE staff had to actually make the complaint for me. I am living with PTSD, and all that that entails. Every time that I face an operating table now I find myself in tears, shaking in terror, and nauseous. I cannot attend the Merlin Park any longer because of the trauma inflicted on me when I was so vulnerable.
Based on my experience, do not expect your dignity to be respected at all times, no matter what you are told. Demand that your dignity is respected. If you do not demand respect, they will just do whatever they want with your body.
My surgery was substandard, and I now live in both physical and emotional pain. Best advice, don't even go past the gates of the Merlin Park.
It doesn’t matter what time your appointment is for because you rarely get seen at that time. I had an appointment at 9 am. to get a plaster removed from my wrist ,but by the time l got out of there it was 11. 45.am. Everybody seems to be told to come at the same time and it’s always crowded. I don’t understand the thinking behind it. You go in and are told to take a seat. Then you are told to go to a room to have the plaster removed. After that you are told to go up for an X Ray where you wait and wait. Then after the XRay you are told to go back to the first unit to get results of the XRay where you wait and wait once again. It’s so fraustrating. I have been there with various injuries many times and it’s always the same. The Doctor l saw was Syrian and his name was Wallede. He was extremely courteous and explained everything in detail to me. That was the best part of my visit. I know we are short of medical staff ,but things should not be like this, and what could have been done in a half an hour took two hours forty five mins. This is because it’s a waiting game.Do they really think people have nothing better to do except sit in a hospital for hours and hours.? There is no doubt that things could be done where they stagger appointments instead of asking everyone to come in at the same time.
This hospital is up & coming again with a huge amount of buildings & departments being built..
It has started to take the overflow from UHG which is great..

My daughter was diagnosed with lupus. She had an appointment at merlin park and was treated really badly. She asked some basic questions as lupus was new to her and got no answers to any of her questions. The doctor was so blunt and my daughter came out more depressed than before she went in. The dose of medication was also wrong she was put on. I had to go private as she said she would never go back there again. The first doctor she got was nice but the second doctor needs to walk the grounds in merlin and keep walking till she finds compassion for patients and understanding of what patients go through. Health system in Ireland has gone so bad. We are all like cattle numbered.
