I don't like to leave negative reviews, but I feel this review is absolutely justified.
The 1 star is in relation to the female, non Irish doctor that my son has just visited this evening after 6 pm on the Cork road, and not directed towards the phone staff or reception staff - My son presented with what we suspected were bites which had been ongoing with a number of weeks. They initially had showed up in minimal and unconcerning numbers, however over the past day, they became more abundant and noticeable, along with spreading on his skin.
In order to have him seen and an appointment given to him by his own GP, he would have a 3 week wait!
The reason for this review is this doctors remark to my son after she had examined him. She told him in no uncertain words that he had a dermatitis outbreak and that it is "not an emergency" and therefore to consider ringing Caredoc again in such a situation.
I would like to point out AGAIN, 3 week wait to see his GP!
I would also like to point out upon presentation that he had skin lesions developing rapidly!
I would also like to point out that we were naturally unaware of what in particular was happening on his skin and regardless he NEEDED to see a doctor!
What he didn't need was this doctors opinion on what she sees is considered a medical reason for calling Caredoc or not.
You are a doctor. He is a patient. He deserves medical attention outside of clinic times. Do your job.

Monday March 2nd 2026 (Caredoc Cork Road Waterford)
I brought my 2.5 year old in with severe ear pain. Doctor said ear was just a bit red and told me to give her Nurofen and Calpol. The next morning I had to bring her to a walk-in doctor where she was diagnosed as having an ear infection AND tonsillitis! And given antibiotics and antibiotic ear drops! Imagine if I had just left her off. She would be in severe pain! The appearance of the Caredoc was very unkempt also. I actually thought he was someone waiting to see the doctor that had come from sleeping rough. Shocking service!
The staff here were absolutely fantastic, I got seen within an hour, they were very sympathetic. I'm over from England so didn't know what to do, I was seen by a really good doctor who sent me to a&e for an urgent scan unfortunately when I saw a doctor in the a&e he told me that he didn't feel that I needed any urgent care and sent me packing without even examining at me. So that was €70 I spent to be sent away, this was yesterday, I haven't slept since, I'm in too much pain to travel back to England for help, so now I'm stuck here in agony with only prayers to help. Such a shame because care doc was brilliant. Such a shame a&e staff disregarded the caredocs request.
Always waiting for 30+ minutes for an answer and then met with rushed, and sometimes really rude, staff. They must be so understaff. With GPs everywhere full, we could only find one in Youghal and each time we call CareDoc (for our sick 3 year old!) we are told we need to call SouthDoc. Have to say that the Dungarvan nurses and doctors are really good.
Had to come in without an appointment today because nobody answered the phone. The receptionist did not like this. I explained nobody answered and I was chancing my arm to which she replied, “well I don’t know how I will fit you in, you don’t just turn up without an appointment”.
I wasn’t there for the fun of it though was I? I told her I didn’t mind waiting and she asked me then “well what’s the issue? Why are you here?”
Was hoping to explain that matter to the doctor privately as normal but had to explain my issues in the waiting room with people around so thank you for that. Referred to Ardkeen to get prescribed the tablets I asked for in the CareDoc to round it off (on the hottest day of the year)
Absolutely scandalous service. Use the number, make appointment and get stuck waiting over an hour. When I ask how long more, I'm told there's a backup due to walk ins. Doctors completely useless. Using phone to find what to prescribe for a toddler. Prescription then not sent to pharmacy and back to square one. Avoid if possible!
I was a bit worried after reading the other reviews, but it was Thursday evening, I got over 39 degrees and my GP was available on Tuesday. It took 10 mins to reach them, then I got a call back in 30 mins and another one within an hour. I got the prescription for antibiotics and got much better over the weekend. Overall, good experience. Thank you!
We had to call caredoc yesterday (Sunday) for my mum. Tried to get through on both numbers for nearly 2 hours. No-one answered after it ringing and being kept on hold for 20/30 minutes at a time, or it was either engaged or off the hook. We ended up calling the ambulance as that was the only way mam was going to get to see a doctor. What a disgrace this service is.
