I was referred to Blackrock in late 2024 after being under the care of a number of different doctors due to medical issues that were exacerbated by obesity which made it very difficult to lose weight without intervention. By the time I came to Mr Robb's team I was disheartened because I had been very unwell for almost five years. I thought feeling sick was my baseline and would always be my baseline. After that first consultation I thought to myself "you've tried everything else and it hasn't worked so why not try this and see how it goes." Following my initial consultation, I had surgery March 7th 2025 and reflecting on the difference in my quality of life one year later I know this was the best decision I've ever made for myself. From day one the entire team have been absolutely fantastic and encouraging. From the practice managers and front of house, to the nurses, to the nutritionists, to the endocrinology team, and not forgetting Mr Robb himself, the quality of care provided has been second to none. My experience with surgery and aftercare was fantastic, Mr Robb has built a team that really care about their patients and I've felt that care both when I was an inpatient and at every follow-up appointment. Every element of my life has improved following surgery, my sleep is better, my mental health is better, literally everything is better in ways I never expected, I can do things that I previously wasn't able to do, things I thought I would never be able to do. My physical health is in a place I couldn't have fathomed getting to before surgery, if you told me of the past that she'd love Yoga and 5ks she'd have laughed in your face. I encourage anyone who is considering this kind of surgery to reach out to Mr Robb and team as I can't fault a single aspect of my care under them over the last 18 months. For me, the surgery facilitated a lifestyle change that I know I'll reap the benefits of for the rest of my life.

Blackrock weight care clinic has without a doubt saved my life. Mr Robb and everyone working at this clinic made it so easy for me to say yes to my bariatric surgery. My back story is I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in September 2015 at the age of 46. I had my life turned upside down & went from a reasonable healthy busy Mam of 3 young kids to someone who couldn’t physically function the way I used to. Following my initial diagnosis it took a while & breaking both ankles & a few bones in my feet (over a period of 4 years) for me to realise my life had changed. I started piling on weight & I went from 12 stone to 19.5 stone over 10 years. I tried the usual weight loss groups but found it very disheartening & a total waste of time & money. I was very frightened for my future as I was now a woman in my mid 50’s with a BMI of 45. I knew I was living on borrowed time and was at a high risk of developing cancer, diabetes, having a stroke or heart attack. I was referred by my GP to an endocrinologist to discuss the possibility of trying Ozempic. I tried it for a while but it just made me nauseous & miserable. Additionally I never felt comfortable putting drugs that weren’t medically needed, into my body as I always worry about what the long term effect these drugs would have interacting with my MS meds. It was at this stage that I was referred to Mr. Robb. The moment I first made contact with the Blackrock Weight-care Team I knew I had chosen the right path. The moment you walk into the clinic you are met by the nicest people. They provide you with all the information you need and guide you every step of the way. My surgery was covered on my Health Insurance which was amazing. There was certain criteria I had to meet and you need to commit to 2 years aftercare which you pay for upfront. This reassured me of the commitment this clinic was making to their patients . Once I met Mr Robb I knew I was meeting a brilliant surgeon. He is so kind & compassionate & really listens to his patients. I left his rooms deciding there & then I’m doing this. I had my surgery 6 weeks later and have never looked back. It was the best decision that I ever made & now 7 months post surgery I am almost 6 stone lighter I feel safer now & forever grateful to Mr. Robb & his team. He informed me today that I have most likely added 10 years to my life. Anyone who is in a similar position to me should have no reservations about this surgery. It saves you a-lot of heartache & pain & suffering further down the road. My surgery was done robotically and I spent just 2 nights in hospital. As I mentioned before the follow up care is amazing . The nurses, dieticians, doctors, receptionist , office staff become your friends & are there for you & invested in your health & well being. Thank you all once again🙏❤️

I was extremely nervous, but also excited. From the moment I arrived, I was met by an incredible medical team. Dr Robb personally greeted me while I was being prepped for surgery, calm, kind, and reassuring. He truly has the most comforting presence. Everything was explained clearly, from the preparation to what would happen next. Before I knew it, I was walking into theatre...and then waking up in recovery with my sister and brother-in-law laughing beside me. The first two weeks post-op were challenging, but I was prepared and determined. By week three, I felt like myself again, moving more, feeling stronger, and honestly wondering if it was too good to be true. Now, at six months post-op, I can confidently say these people have saved my life. I feel incredible, mentally, physically, and emotionally. I’m consistent with my daily vitamins, train with weights 3–4 days a week, cycle 6–10km daily at the gym, and stay active throughout the week, things I simply could not do before. My results so far: Starting weight: 177.8kg (27.99st / 392lbs) Current weight (6 months post-op): 117.2kg (18.45st / 258lbs) And still going. I feel unstoppable. I had my gastric sleeve performed by Mr William Robb almost 16 months ago. I was 123.5kg and now I’m 70kg! I suffer from PCOS so losing weight naturally wasn’t really an option for me. This was the best decision I have ever made as now I’m finally happy and healthy. My whole body is so much stronger and my mental health is better. I couldn’t be happier with the results! Thank you to Mr Robb and team for making this such an easy process. Surgery is always so daunting but Mr Robb was able to answer any questions or concerns I had and really made me comfortable and made sure I had a full understanding of the whole process before I underwent surgery. So I am a year post op bypass with Mr Robb, this time last year I asked myself would I even enjoy a dinner or night out again, after my op I was on the mushy baby food diet for about 6 weeks, this was hard, but OMG as time goes by things do become more “ normal “ a year on I am down 42kg and can enjoy every day life ( just in smaller portions) I can still have a night out and feel satisfied with normal size meal, Anyone thinking about it, go for it! Mr Robb & his team are just amazing and always there when you need them , The Only regret is I did not do it years ago, Also best insurance secret ever!! so check your insurance as you are probably covered! OK, I will start at the begining. After a long struggle with pain, inflammation and frustration with the healthcare system in Ireland, a very kind doctor (Prof. Griffin) referred me to Mr Rob. By then I was confined at home from pain, I had to abandon a job In healthcare (a job I loved), and I was losing hope. With the background history I had of being dismissed by doctors and having my pain dismissed, I was worried but I felt I had nothing left to lose. I welcomed the kindness and professionalism of Mr Rob's Team from the very first phone call with the lovely secretaries and the care coordinator. They were so welcoming and understanding, empathetic and informative. They treated me like a human being and Not as an illness. Losing weight was never my goal. Mostly because I never thought it was possible. Being pain free was my goal or at least having manageable pain levels, so when I was offered one last option I jumped with both feet and that team help me make a decision that changed my life. I was scared, But I was so fed up I decided to make one last attempt. I pretended I wasn't nervous, but deep down I was thinking: "what if this doesn't work either?". I already had spent so much time, and money in hospitals, this was a huge commitment and sacrifice, but I wanted to help myself. I had my tests done, I met the Counselor and I was ready to try anything. The surgery went very well and for a few days I struggled to get my pain under control because I had other health issues and got a small infection (due to retention and catheterisation). The CNS (Nurse Susan) was a god sent to me. She believed me, she helped me, she gave me yogurt, information and compassion, she really made me feel heard and she was invaluable to me as she advocated for me so I could get those small complications out of the way. She went the extra mile then and months after, I am forever grateful to her. I started my follow up with the Dietitian, Endocrinology, Physio, Counsellor, and the rest of the team. I was armed with a wealth of information about what to expect and I followed their instructions as much as I possibly could. My body took time to heal, and slowly adapted to the new routine. Listen, I was in pain every single day before surgery day, I needed steroid injections in my joints, I needed strong pain relief and I had 7 surgeries that year. It was painful to just survive. Today, I take 1 paracetamol a week, most days... nothing. Only my vitamins. Talk about a revolutionary change. I was discharged from 6 medical teams. I lost 64kg in 1 year. My inflammation markers are gone. My pain is almost just a memory, I am outside and I think: "So this is what normal feels like!, being outside is actually Nice!" I can go back to work with energy and I feel fantastic, like the future and going back to the job I love, may be a possibility again. Dr Griffin and Mr Rob's team saved my life. They gave me back a quality of Life I didn't have since, well forever... They gave me back hope by answering every question, Susan replied to my SMS on whatsapp when she was not even on duty (Sorry Susan). There are no words to express how thankful I am and there is nothing I can do or say to make you guys appreciate the magnitude and impact of your work. All I want now is to be "that" person for other people in my job as well. From the bottom of my heart, Thank you. I cannot commend nor recommend Mr Robb highly enough. From our first meeting where he laid out all my options, he has been firmly in my corner. He suggested the route which he thought best for me and we came to a mutual agreement, the roux en y bypass. Every member of his Blackrock crew are to be lauded as the care I received was exemplary. The friendly encouragement from the reception team, regular check ins re pain management, the provision of all information needed for recuperation at home, there was nothing left to chance. I am 6 months post op on the day of this review and I’m down 9 stone. I had given myself 12 months to lose 10 stone so I’m well ahead of my target. I’m off almost all medication, walking 10k per day and in the gym twice a week. I never ever believed I’d be a gym goer, I was always too self conscious to put myself in that position. Now it’s completely different, I’m even enjoying the sessions. I had noticed my agent wasn’t often submitting me for roles because my size rarely fit the casting briefs, now things have changed. My only regret in this whole weight loss journey is that I wasn’t aware surgery was an option sooner.
