Mr Providas has been our family doctor for more than 5 years. The few times we have needed his help, he was easily reachable and healpful. There have been times though, during our communication, that his behaviour bordered impoliteness. We have chosen to overlook it, blaiming it either to the language barrier (we are Greeks, he is of greek origin but his Greek is less than perfect) or having a bad day at work. Today, my wife had an appointment and after that, I felt compeled to write this comment. Three weeks ago she had a lung infection, she was treated in Greece and she took antibiotics for 10 days. Four days ago she began coughing again, and indicated the same symptoms as during her previous infection, so I made her an appointment with Mr Providas. She was late at her appointment by 20' having walked the distance. Her fault, undoubtadly. The thing is that she was obviously not well when she arrived there, having difficulty to breath. Mr Providas told her that he couldn't see her and it would be better to make an appointment with another doctor, since she wasn't after all, his patient. When my wife replied that he is our family doctor, his answer was that ''I have seen you only once in 2021, I don't care''. She said she was sorry and left. When someone makes an appointment to see a doctor, by default something is wrong with their health. My wife was obviously not feeling well. She was late, and it's only fair that she would miss her appointment. But the least one can do, not only as a doctor but as a human being, while seeing someone straggling to catch their breath and being pale, is to ask them if they need to sit down for a moment, if they feel ok to leave or if they need a glass of water. My wife made it back to her working place, where her colleagues were shocked by her sick appearance, insisting on calling a doctor or get her to a hospital. Still Mr Providas, having taken the Oath of Hippocrates, had no problem whatsoever letting her leave in her condition. ''Doctor'' means healer, someone with compassion who actually CARES for their patients' well being, and by patients I don't mean only their ''regulars''. I am sure that Mr Providas won't miss us as clients. We won't miss him either.
